Destiny 2 implemented a system in which a player can select "seeker" or "guide". You need tickets to seek, but not to guide. Seekers select a clan to play with, guides requires 3-5 people to help a single person.
My question:
Why is matchmaking not a thing in raids, or even high level Nightfalls then?
My point of view:
If one person can seek a group they dont know, or vice versa, then logically one could then hypothesize that matchmaking groups is likely not very different because even clans aren't 100% sure how to do activities in raids; quite often it turns into a discussion that takes forever. This is no different than randoms minus knowing who they are on the other end, that's the only thing that really changes.
In a community based game would it not make sense to open everything up? It makes no sense to close off activities to people because even if its all open, there will still be the exclusives, still be the elite, that's just life. Everyone can get to the same max light levels, every activity can be locked until reaching certain light levels, there will still be those that choose not to do it, those that try and fail, then stop. The only thing barring activities off really does, is gives bragging rights to those that feel they need it, and of course titles nobody else can get, still goes with bragging rights.
That's not to say that's everyone that does raids, far from it, its simply just stating that the only reason one has for exclusivity in anything in life is the bragging rights to the accomplishment and elitism, should they choose to express it. So why not just give the entire playerbase the same universal access to opportunities, to make the choice of what they want to pursue? They'll choose what they do and don't want to experience.
People may say server space is the issue, but as long as you're on D2, you're using the servers, so that shouldn't be an issue unless it just skyrocketed new player numbers beyond capacity. Just some evening thinking. I've seen many articles this year about "Bungie asking players to return" that tells me there's a problem but its not P.R. friendly so there's no talk of it. You want more players? Opening it all up seems like a good option.

A matchmaking system can be implemented into raids and it can work. Bungie just doesn’t want to for some reason.
