Evelyn-3 stood tall, straight backed, staring into the dark nothingness of the sky around her. Green lightning sparked and flashed at irregular intervals, briefly illuminating her stone cold visage. Only the faint light from her eyes showed she wasn't a statue, melted and hammered into place, but a living machine.
She thought the view was perfect, but said nothing.
"Hey mom! I got them all buckled in, we'll head off for the ceremony now. Are you coming now, or a little later?"
Izuma flew onto the rooftop behind her, landing smoothly on the cold metal.
"I'll be right along, my dear. Thank you."
"Alright, I'll make sure to wait till you get there to start. Bye mom, love ya."
Evelyn-3 nodded, her expressionless face concealing the joy she held at having a daughter. Izuma flew off, and left a minute later with the kids. Only then did Evelyn get to work.
Speaking in lines of code, the hybrid celluloid-viral product began deleting millions of files, powering down generators and disabling nanite bonds. Slowly but surely, her mechanical world began to grow even darker. The lightning began to appear less frequently, and what little lights remained fizzled out as well. What was only a few minutes ago a land of living metal, alive to the touch, now sat a dead plateau, featureless and plain as the day she found it.
Evelyn-3 finished her work, and Pax Mechanica breathed its last. As she stepped into a portal to leave, the call of the Many grew louder.
"Come to me, my Pride, and be whole."
Evelyn stopped, and answered.
"Not yet. Let me finish what I started."
The call grew silent, and Evelyn-3 left for her birthplace, the Plane of Fire.
