So I'm almost done with Pokemon Sword...
As a Pokemon game, it was okay. The story is most likely the worst out of any of the Pokemon games I've played. All of the new QoL features, such as mints, are really nice to have, and the Wild Area is pretty cool.
Overall I feel like this was more of a transitionary game, so it was probably rushed.
Oh, and Galarian Darmanitan is absolutely busted lol.

3 RepliesYeah, it’s definitely one of, if not the weakest of the series. You can tell not a lot of effort was put into the base game. I’ve heard the DLC makes it better, but we shouldn’t need DLC for that. The music is absolute bangers left and right though. Bede’s theme, Hop’s, Gym Leaders, Legendary Doggo Music, and so on.

I’d be okay with some linear/open world hybrid or maybe just a ton of side quests in the next game. I really do think though that they’re gonna start actually using the switch’s capabilities more. I know that the reason we didn’t get all the previous Pokémon in the base game is due to the thing they used to transfer the Pokémon from ds to switch broke. I bet if they didn’t have to deal with that we would have gotten a bigger game in the first place. Look at their other major titles, Breath of the Wild or Odyssey, for comparison.

Eh after the main story your basically done with the game unless you are willing to buy the dlc. There’s basically no post game besides like 3-4 unique dynamax battles. This next sections is just some of my opinions on the game so feel free to skip it [spoiler]My main issue with the game is how inconsistent everything is, like the balance, models/textures, animations, music etc. it definitely has some great moments and I did play it for a pretty long time after the story but god damn it’s so hard to replay/ get into again. As a 60 dollar game by itself it’s definitely the worst Pokémon game for its time/console, if they made one or both of the dlc eventually free in like, a year, then I think it would be a passable game but it doesn’t fix the main issue of its inconsistency[/spoiler] Anyways, have fun!

11 RepliesThe story wasn’t terrible, honestly, it just for some reason decided we weren’t the main character. Like, every time something happened, Leon just kinda took care of it for us. The Wild Area was neat, but I hope it stays the way it is. That is to say, a small open area, rather than an entire open world. I like the linear structure, with an open area to run around in as the endgame. An entire open world wouldn’t be very fun, I think. The designs this time around are some of the best! This gen & last gen have been superb in that department. And wherever they go next, I hope we get some form of raid battles again. I really enjoyed co-op!
