Becasue getting steam rolled by unbrokens, dredgens and flawless is not a good first impression and certainly not fun.
Im not complaining, BUT the learning curve nowdays is waaaay too steep. A newbie without a godroll or an exotic to his name stands no chance unless he/she has a full fireteam teaching them.
Bungie wanted to make crucible not so "high stakes" but the reality is that they achieved the opposite; If you are not try-harding in the crucible then you are not going to get anywhere. And this is basic control im talking about; none of that competitive stuff. If I cant even do anything in the non-competitive playlist, how am I ever going to do competitive? The current non skilled matchmaking will psyche out newer players out of the PVP experience of the game.
I love the crucible; but it has never been so unreasonably hard as it is nowdays. And hey; I've been tryharding a lot lateley, but if you get exhusted after every single match then it stops being fun.
Also, clan matchmaking needs to be a thing; becasue when your first match of the day is against a full clan, and you are playig solo, then you know how the match is going to end from the second it allows you to tab and see the players.
The best part about skilled base matchmaking? No rebalancing needed of any exotic, class ability or anything like that. Just a level playing field.
It also comes with the added bonus of knowing when you are getting better at the game; the second you are matched against harder players, then, you know you are getting there. Nowdays you can multi kill three people with a single ammo clip, they get 6 kills by the end of the match, while the top scoring player has 40, and that team will still loose the match because the other team has at least 3 people achieveing a consistent 16-20 with 2 zones.
Nons-skill based matchmaking rewards no one, and punishes the newer player.
Just food for thought; Bungie please consider it.

Destiny is one of the easiest fps games to learn, everything about this game is noob friendly. If I was a noob, I would easily grasp that rising light level and earning legendaries and exotics are the best in the game. Some common, rare weapons are also sometimes better than legendaries, bungie did this so new players don’t always get rolled.
