My best friend who doesn’t fully understand emotion and social nuance. Her brain is very analytical and she is a wonderful person, but she doesn’t fully understand social interaction and sometimes comes across like a total jerk without realizing it. She tends to think more globally, it’s hard to explain but here is an example: I was helping her move into her new house. She had gotten a really good deal because of the housing market crash and normally wouldn’t be able to afford to buy a house but because of a deal on a short sale, she was able to buy. As I was unpacking some boxes I heard her talking to next door neighbors out front. They were talking about how the housing crash had hit them hard and they were going to have to sell at a loss and move out just to maintain. She said something like “Well with the crash a lot of people that couldn’t afford homes are now able to buy homes, because of a lot of lower housing prices. Like, I was able to buy this house for almost half of what it sold for a few years ago. So while it’s a bad situation for you, it is actually a huge benefit to people like me, so it’s not all bad.” I cringed so hard. And yeah I know that makes her sound like a horrible person but if you know her, the way she thinks, she was trying to say that it’s nice for poor people to be able to find deals on owning homes, in the enteral sense. She just plain didn’t understand how she was coming across with the way she worded her statement. It happens a lot with her and I try to help her and explain things like this and she’s getting better. She actually does really care about people and works her butt off in the medical field.
