Cipher Decoders do not enhance or improve the grind. They only artificially increase it. Remove them and allow all the chests to be opened.
The existence/addition of Cipher Decoders do not enhance or improve the game and grind. It only increases it and makes it worse. Instead of having to spend HOURS just to have the chance of getting ONE, remove them entirely from the event and allow all players to open the chests freely. I know this is a month long event but cmon Bungie, stop increasing the length of the stick and decreasing the size of the carrot. There is already enough RNG at play. We are not your hamsters on a wheel. We are not guinea pigs or test subjects for you to experiment on. We are players who deserve SO much better than constantly running after the carrot that keeps getting farther and farther away.
TL;DR: Remove Cipher Decoders and allow players to open the chests at the end of the Haunted Forest freely.
P.S. Shaw Han sounds and looks beyond dumb. Unless he is Uldren in disguise, I have no interest in who he is or his backstory.

That's exactly what we are. Hamsters in a ball running around Destiny being active subjects to testing their forever beta content. Accepting that makes the pain a little easier to bear, even with some good in Destiny. Much of it will be forever buggy. This event at this point was rigged with a bottleneck to prevent Vets from speed running through it. A little silly on Bungie's part given that as you said there's enough RNG at play. It's solstice all over again. Too many keys not enough chests. Now it's a stacking problem. RNG ontop of an abysmal drop rate. I didn't expect much so I've put the game down until BL drops. We all hit a wall eventually. Sometimes a breath from a different game does wonders.

go to nessus, do a buch of patrols and public events. it doesnt take hours to get a decoder....how else was i able to open already all 45 chests for the triumph and get the ascendent lens from the spider

6 RepliesI'm for makeing the decoders drop from the bosses within the haunted forest. It would incentify players to go deeper into the forest.

1 ReplyThe first time I did escalation protocol and got to the end and realized I couldn’t open the chest because I apparently needed a key I pretty much said F that. Not sure why it bothered me so much when D1 had them for strike specific chests and I was fine with that.

Or just remove both. Until now we've only had the one chest. I don't see why the other five need to exist.

9 RepliesIt seems the artificial grind is all this company has had to offer since Forsaken. The game was in a good place when Forsaken released, it was the day this company took the advice from their streamers to change the name for masterwork cores to enhancement cores when the game went downhill with just about everything. If you look at all the unnecessary changes that took place to create that grind that wasn't necessary you can see where it started and how much effort this company put into that just to keep that artificial grind going. 1. Changing the name of the masterwork cores from what they were actually created for. 2. Constantly adding unnecessary material like the ciphers. 3. Constantly raising the cost to masterwork or buying certain material. 4. Raising the amount of material to use for certain items. 5. Way overdoing the number of bounties, and to complete bounties, get 1500 final blows or whatever. 6. The outrageous amount of duplicates. 7. 95% of the gear drops with stats so low that we're dismantling legendary items like blues. 8. RNG on top of RNG. 9. Drop rate for certain items were set deliberately to have a very low drop rate. 10. Throttling seems to be a big thing this company loves to do that is way overused with just about everything in this game. I could add a few more, but the truth is if this company spent time trying to create quality content that keeps players engaged in that content? A lot of the things I posted wouldn't have had to take place to try to force players time to show numbers.

Guaranteed two dropping from nightfall ordeal (even adept level) and crucible. Although I'm mighty sick of the infinite forest this week what with Garden World NF and haunted forest runs

The drop rate on them is better now, for me still not ideal. I feel like they should be guaranteed 1 for any completed activity, including public events, story missions, lost sectors, adventures, each wave of EP, and patrols. With a chance of getting 2+ from things like final boss of EP, Strikes, Gambit matches, Crucible matches, Raid encounters. I know it’s not me. I love some of the past holiday events that felt like they showered us with loot. Even if it was just things like the holiday weapon and upgrade materials at a very high rate. It makes the events feel more special than just a cosmetic event.

Bungie are working day and night to deliver you the best and most content they can AND also adding real nice cosmetics, And you taking that for granted and Portraying them like this honestly disgusts me. Also, Gameplay wise, playing for 15 minutes and getting all the stuff that you would normally get with the Cipher Decoders is just serious overlooting. It just makes it so that after around 3 Haunted forest runs you just don't play it anymore because why would you? you got all the loot without sweating a single drop. Don't complain. If you don't aren't willing to work for theloot this activity has to offer, don't go ranting about "how unfair it is", just do other activities. no one made you play it and nothing is perfect for everyone. Quit being a drama queen and just move on.

I feel like it should be done like the revelry event was. You get extra chests based on how many bosses you defeat. Defeat 7 bosses? Get 6 extra chests for a total of 7 for that run.

So basically log in receive all the loot Bungie has to offer and logout would be your ideal game. There has to be some kind of grind progression not just a 15 min playtime for 6 chests. Destiny is not a game for you, be better for you to leave now and use your time on things you enjoy. Happy Trails.

I’ve only done my usual grind and had enough to open the chests for ten runs, obtained all but 5 masks, both weapons and unlocked the ghost, sparrow and ship, just need the candy to buy them and should have enough by tomorrow! Easy done, just play as usual wearing a mask!

I've not taken part in this seasons event for this very reason. The grind is dull and unrewarding. It would be nice if our game time was more respected by bungie.

1 ReplyHow about for every branch cleared gives you a chest up to say I dunno 7-10 maximum chests then enhancement cores prisms and shards after the pinnacle cap is cleared

you should only get to open all five chests if you clear seven branches. not hard to do, but gives a reason for guardians to go into the forest. right now, there is zero reason to go in unless you have 5 ciphers.

1 ReplyThey could just put a chest at the end for each branch cleared up to 5 total, not counting the one up front and center. This would encourage active playing of the event instead of farming. But that wouldn't force us into other unrelated activities and is therefore "bad."

Yes I agree! I’m sick of getting hand canons every time which I am not a hand canon user. Have yet to see even one braytech werewolf. Shaders, masks and hand canons👎🏼

This is what they do. It’s what they decided was the “right direction” for this game years ago. It’s a tough pill to swallow but this is Destiny. They know how we feel about it and all they did was double down on grind so we have to assume this is just how it’s going to be for a while.

I’m largely burnt out on the game so I’m limiting my participation in FoL. I’ll get the triumphs done before it goes away but that’s it for me. Not grinding for these weapons. Wish the ciphers would drop more regularly so I can get all the triumphs done. I have little patience for doing stuff like patrols and strikes these days. I like to raid and you only get one cipher, if that, per raid completion. It sucks.
