We have yet to see how things are gonna be fixed, only being told how they will until November when Beyond Light releases. First and foremost I'm absolutely not a hardcore gamer, but I can confidently say I'm dedicated to Destiny as a whole. Let me say too that I specifically bought/invested Destiny for the core aspect of the game "MMO RPG". Lastly this is 100% MY opinion, I'm not expecting everyone to agree with me. These are specific to my troubles that push me away from believing this is THE perfect game.
Now let's jump right in. The game feels stale, and washed out mostly from lack of current content support. This ranges all over to Patrols, Lost Sectors, Adventures, Bounties, Strikes, Nightfalls, Public Events, Raids, and the LOOT. Bungie keeps adding new things, but doesn't keep the current content fresh.
Loot is repetitive, constantly getting blues even when endgame has been reached. Also the rolls, mods, and perks don't feel special at all, because they all have minor tweaks that make little differences. I want people to be able to tell that my character can actually MOVE, and soar through the air when I'm stacked with mobility. With mods, for example during a specific encounter like the final boss fight during the Garden of Salvation Raid when I have my Enhanced Relay defender fully stacked. I want my guardian to physically beam of power when I'm near the Vex Relay so other guardians know what I have, rather than needing to inspect my character. I want the armor to be special in many ways depending on what mods are put where, changing bullet animations if I have damage modifiers on, make armor sound stronger when I have major resist on when those enemy types are attacking me, etc.
World activities absolutely feel worthless at this point, literally the same thing over, and over again. I feel like a lot of it has to do with the lack of gameplay lore. sure we can read it... It's a game though! I want to learn about lore during my missions. Patrols, Bounties, and Adventures can feel like so much more than just repurposed missions just to complete a task for that week. Tell me how, and show me where Eris, and her fire team were doomed through a patrol, or adventure. Make longer rotations, so next week another patrol, or adventure can be explored letting me physically learn about more lore. Bungie needs to use that to there advantage since there is so much story behind Destiny.
Public Events on the other hand can use a good ole fashion massage, kneading the activity to feel different everytime. I'll use Injection Rig as an example. Make the rig have different weak points, different major enemy types, along with elemental shields, add unique rewards for that specific planet, and specific enemy types (even if it's just rare items) just make them feel special to earn, and maybe add micro modifiers to spice up the challenge. All this could be added to a daily rotation. Speaking of loot again, rare should mean RARE, and not common like it currently feels. Who knows, maybe us guardians would like to goof around wearing a grass covered, muddy ass cabal styled armor straight from the EDZ, with a special perk that activates when a area damaging shield (injection rig) is damaging a guardian, it will null the burn.
Strikes, yeah... At this point I can't even play a strike because every other player is so sick of how repetitive they are (I'm talking about speed running) just for that crispy weekly engram. Weekly modifiers don't do it justice either, we need weekly mechanic changes, also better LOOT to make running in a strike actually worth doing. Just as an idea it would be nice to see a strikes appearance change weekly too, along with switching up paths, and adding small puzzles.
Exotic quests are a very fun challenge. Until you're forced to do something that has nothing to do with the core game, yes I'm talking about PVP. "MMO RPG" is what Destiny is, so why is it when I want to play an RPG, I'm forced to run into PVP for a sweat fest just to have a gun that will help me in PVE. People do love PVP in Destiny, cool let them have it. Just keep it in the PVP realm of the darn game, and quit trying to mix it in with the core game.
Raids can simply use all the above to boost replay value. Don't get me wrong, Raids are currently my absolute favorite, especially with the friends I've made along the way. When it's jumping into the same thing though, even with challenges that slightly change the encounter. I simply want to see a raid dynamically change. Traps, puzzles, enemy waves, an intelligent rotation pattern can make a raid feel exciting to jump into everytime! That's just an easy way to do it.
I hate to sound like a complainer, but I really just want Destiny to be the best it can. The idea of it is what sold me even before D1 was released, when we were all going to Taco Bell in hopes of winning the giveaway lol. All the Love to Bungie. I sure hope you at least read this, and can somewhat share the same desire I have. I can understand as a company who recently went independent after having their hands cuffed, you're trying to always make things right.
Thank you,
James D.
