In lore, Saint-14 has been called the greatest Titan who ever lived and Osiris the greatest Warlock. But Hunters have never had a “greatest.” So in this post I’ve listed some of the most famous and accomplished Hunters; the best candidates for the title. This isn’t voting to see who would win in a fight (we’ve only seen a few of them in action, anyway). It also isn’t a vote for who the next Hunter Vanguard should be (#Taniks4HunterVanguard)
The poll has a size limit, so I’ve only put those that I consider to be the best candidates in the poll, but there are a number of other good Hunters. Feel free to shout them out in the comments. More Hunters are listed here:
Tallulah Fairwind
Caliban-8
Aparajita-4
Kauko Swiftriver
Andal Brask
Cayde-6
Micah-10
Pahanin
Anastasia Bray
Marcus Ren
Shiro-4
Shin Malphur
(This isn’t every Hunter ever, just the Hunters I could think of that could potentially be considered the best of the Hunters)
Now, being the “Greatest” doesn’t necessarily mean they’re the most powerful or skilled or wise, but they have become legends through their achievements and qualities. Power and skill and wisdom are all factors, though. Also make your decision based on what these Hunters have done and who they are personally.
Here I have brief descriptions of the top candidates, so y’all can brush off on their lore to help make your decision:
Tallulah Fairwind:
In all honestly, lore has set her up to be the #1 candidate. Most other Hunters don’t have much lore about contributing to society or the protection of humanity. Tallulah was present during the rise of the Last City, helped build it up to what it is today, and defined Hunters. You know how Saint and Osiris are not only the greatest of their respective Classes, but also the first Vanguards of their Classes? Well, Tallulah was the first Hunter Vanguard. By that position alone she kind of has the right to the title of Greatest. She took this position as a dare from the Speaker and Saint, starting the tradition. Tallulah also was a mentor and close friend to Andal Brask (the Hunter Vanguard before Cayde-6) ever since he arrived in the Last City. Even when she was killed by an Ahamkara she went out with dignity and had her friend, Caliban-8, replace her as Hunter Vanguard through a Dare.
Caliban-8:
The 2nd Hunter Vanguard and friend of Tallulah. We don’t know much about him, only how he replaced Tallulah.
Aparajita-4:
The 3rd known Hunter Vanguard. Nothing else is known about her.
Kauko Swiftriver:
The 4th known Vanguard. All we know is that he disappeared and his Dare was never found. Pretty bad situation.
Andal Brask:
The Vanguard that replaced Kauko through a Dare with Cayde-6 involving killing Taniks. Andal took the position and became a responsible Vanguard, keeping the position even when he discovered he hadn’t lost the Dare. He was a friend and comrade to Tallulah, Cayde and other Hunters. He was killed by Taniks.
Cayde-6:
The last Hunter Vanguard. A roguish and friendly troublemaker, known for getting into mischief. He’s done plenty of adventuring and hunted down a lot of baddies in his time.
Micah-10:
Micah has shown herself to be a kind and dependable Huntress and friend. She defended humanity in older times and for a long time now has served as a shepherd to Ghosts, protecting and befriending them while guiding them in their searches for Guardians. She found the freshly revived Andal Brask and sent him to the Last City and her friend, Tallulah.
Pahanin:
A participant of the Great Ahamkara Hunt and technically the only survivor of Kabr’s 2nd venture into the Vault of Glass. Pahanin was a kind but very paranoid soul, a passionate squid enthusiast, and the maker of Super Good Advice. Other Hunters held him and his wisdom in high regard, and even recorded his wisdoms into a handbook (against his wishes). He respected Titans and Warlocks, advising always to keep a Titan close at hand for their usefulness and to never shake hands with a Warlock lest you risk being disintegrated. Pahanin introduced Eriana-3 to Wei Ning. He was killed by Dredgen Yor himself using Thorn in the Crucible.
Anastasia Bray:
A skilled fighter and powerful Lightbearer, with the most powerful feat of Light used by a Hunter to our knowledge with her Golden Gun at Twilight Gap. Her obsessions with her past as a Bray and Rasputin led her to fake her death during the Battle of Twilight Gap, a rather terrible thing to do in such a desperate battle, but despite this she is still friends with her former comrades and has managed to do good for the City thanks to her help with Rasputin.
Marcus Ren:
All we know about him is he’s a highly skilled and committed Sparrow racer, as well as a very skilled and creative mechanic. He’s made a lot of exotic gear. He seems to have a pretty fun personality, too.
Shiro-4:
A responsible Vanguard Scout and friend of Cayde and Andal. He’s also the maker of Outbreak Prime.
Shin Malphur:
A renegade Hunter and highly skilled gunslinger, the creator of the Golden Gun. He founded the Shadows of Yor and helped us to walk in the gray area between Dark and Light. Basically all he does is kill Lightbearers that are corrupted by Darkness.
Pretty sure my Hunter has had to pick up where all or most of those mentioned have failed and then some, so I'm going to say "me".
