As per my recent post history about sunsetting people not providing alternatives to it, here is an idea:
Instead of sunsetting weapons and inventory from the upcoming vault planets and raids, they could substitute the original framework builds into a new idea called power ascension.
Power ascension is a market economy upgrade, however. Similar in concept to the weapons vault now, but with increased precision of it all. A weapon deemed for vault can be retained and increased in light cap under this ascension path. The ascension upgrades would be specific to new regions however and would be high in terms of cost due to wear and tear on the weapons themselves. Furthermore, Banshee would be your gunsmith to upgrade at.
Here's the general narrative.
Mountaintop is capped at 1060 light. You want to ascend it another 10 points. Not infuse, but ascend. The ascension upgrade would be 100 spinfoil from Venus, 10k glimmer, and 1 week of downtime with Banshee-44 for the modification.
You can change the numbers all you want for any increased amount and see how people like it, but 100 materials is not that hard to get and would increase the power cap to 1070. That means you can have your mountaintop at 2000 power (or whatever the seasonal cap is at) by simply farming venus for 400 planetary material and 1 month out of 12 months until the next sunset year.
The limitation would be Banshee-44. Let's say up to three weapons can be done at any given time (EDIT: Meant to read 1 primary, 1 special, 1 heavy weapon) and reset is when 1 week has passed to pick up the weapon. However, as each year gets bigger? So does the contribution, this again, is due to wear and tear. You are using the same mountaintop from years prior and with deaths comes additional damage the enemies are toiling onto the weapon which can't be repaired by light alone. So next sunset year? Maybe mountaintop took a heavy heavy toil amount and is now 250 per 10 levels, but still is only 1 week downtime.
This is one alternative to show the world gameplay is evolving. People might say they hate the grind, but if you're not grinding to get your weapons in a raid or endgame content? Then why are you doing the activity you dislike so much?

Yeah this game sucks.
