I’ve decided to playthrough Halo 3 and try and save every single Marine/ODST/Elite that doesn’t have a scripted death, along with the “destined” but not scripted deaths I can prevent. (Example: The Warthog gunner on Tsavo Highway that gets ran over by a Chopper near the beginning.) Also, by save, I mean every allied NPC I can get to the point where they will not follow me anymore due to code. So far, I’ve done Sierra 117, I gave up on Crow’s Nest after trying to save the Marine being held upside down by a Brute farthest from Chief in the Crow’s Nest barracks. It’s possible to save him by making a nearly impossible throw with a Spike Grenade. I’ve also finished Tsavo Highway. As difficult as this is, it honestly becomes worth it when I see a small army of 15+ Marines behind me.
