Prismatic Recaster Doesn't Accept Twisted Energy or Altered Element to Level Research
Either this is very poorly documented/guided in-game, or mine is broken? I've searched forums, reddit, etc. and not seeing anyone else with this issue. Maybe I'm just blind to something the game is trying to tell me?
I'm Season Level 20, Power level 1012 and grinding. Decrypted dozens of Umbral Engrams, but I've never been able to actually do anything with the Prismatic Recaster. I kept thinking maybe I'd get to some point with Power or with Campaign and it would unlock naturally via Story, but all that has changed is that it now presents me with "Rewards" , but they are all inactive because my Umbral Research Level is 0.
Lots of searches, YouTube vids and guides later, it seems like all I should have to do is walk up to it and start turning in my Twisted Energy and/or Altered Element - I have 500 of one, 850 of the other. This seems like it would make sense, since that's what you do with planetary resources at each planet vendor for legendary engrams. However, I have no interface to turn in my Twisted Energy or Altered Element at the Prismatic Recaster. Drifter has nothing else for me - I don't see any quests in my logs that relate to this content - I'm done with all Campaign activities - it's just grinding Bounties now.
So I'm not really sure what else to do with this. I have 7 Umbral Engrams in my Inventory just waiting to try out this Recaster, but it seems I'm stuck unable to level it and use it. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!

I figured it out! It's a Seasonal Quest called "In The Face of Darkness" - the only hint it had was that after completion, I had to return to the Drifter, so I thought maybe that one is the key. It does not say anything in the quest text or in the Prismatic Recaster that completion of this quest is required, but I thought, hmmmm, Drifter and Seasonal - this might be it! So I queued for a Vanguard Playlist Strike, and after completion, the quest step told me to return to the Drifter. He gave me a cache of supplies and now the Prismatic Recaster is fully open for my Research leveling.

1 ReplyI have exactly the same problem Twisted Energy stock stable at 500 Altered Elements currently 409 and growing when I face the machine HOLD "E" it opens and shows what upgrades are available, the first has a limited time clock on it - on selecting the progress bar at the top Zooms full then empties and I get nothing.......This marks my 4th attempt at trying to get this solved and my 3rd mentor is trying to help. I had this feeling that there is a game requirement that needs to be done before access is granted - I also tried You tube, GTS for some sort of help/solution but NO joy. Been asked to make a video of my problem to explain what happens??? is my explanation insufficient??

7 RepliesWhen viewing the Recaster, you should see a large yellow box. Point at it and press the button to view its detailed information. There, you should be able to purchase the initial Upgrade which unlocks the ability to tune the Umbral Engrams. You will only be able to unlock that initial research by ranking up on the main interaction with it (as you said, just like the Planetary NPCs). Each Rank Up will allow you to unlock 1 research, but the first research must be purchased there in order to get started with the rest.
