I mean, why not?
Blues have more than outlived their purpose. 99% of them are almost never equipped unless you're busy leveling up to the soft/powerful cap, and the only other uses for them are infusion or dismantling once you hit the powerful cap. Anything works if it's a high enough light, though legendaries are more likely to drop at a higher light. As for dismantling, legendaries are also better dismantles because you get at least 3 legendary shards and gunsmith materials per dismantle, and they don't take up nearly as much space in comparison. How many times in an hour do you need clean your inventory? How many times do you visit the Tower -or open up a third party app- just to clean out your Postmaster?
Since there's still no sign of an auto-dismantle option in the future, we might as well move on to the next best option for them which is sunsetting. Now, I know that also leads to the question of what loot we will be chasing since all of our current blues are from Forsaken or earlier.
The answer is simple: Bring back more blues from D1 and slap the current season marker on them, and reprise about 10% (or less) of our current blues just so we have enough to keep leveling us up when the season cap is raised. We've already recycled legendaries and exotics from previous seasons and/or D1, so there's no harm in doing it with blues. If Bungie's feeling creative though, new blues isn't out of the question because it's more trophies for the collection. Makes the game smell fresh with that new blue smell (don't actually sniff the engrams though; it's bad for your health).
So, here's what we accomplish:
More useless items out of the lootpool? Check.
Recycling? Check.
Vibes? Checked.
Full Postmaster? You better check.
Make new content? Eh, we'll leave that as optional.
P.S.
Banshee, don't forget to make more Common (white) and Uncommon (green) guns. We'll need them to fight off the evil space Egyptians. Don't worry, Fenchurch has the armor covered; he has contacted a tailor for cheap.

If you ask me, I believe that would be a fine quality of life update, but what about the community? What are your thoughts?
In all seriousness, the frequency of blues do need looked at in some way. They're way too common and mostly serve to take up space and waste time once we've reached the appropriate level caps. Even a single legendary drop is automatically better than the 3 blues you receive from a game of crucible.
An auto-dismantle option should considered at this point. People that do still need them for infusion or leveling can have it disabled, while players not interested in dismantling excessive junk every 5-10 minutes can enable the option and continue their activities. If not that, then consider lowering their drop rates in the open world as well as when completing playlist or endgame activities.
