Since sunsetting is definitely going to be a thing moving forward, we can't have people chasing the roll they want for an entire year, and then finally getting that gear with that roll, only for it to be pointless to have in your inventory the next week. This goes especially for people who maybe only get to play once a week. Getting the gear itself is fine IMO, but getting the roll you want can be hell.
Some ways we can fix this:
For armor - For changing your armor's element, the consumed materials should cost only upgrade modules, adding more per level (10 ~ 20 modules on masterworked armor). You could also add a feature that would allow you to rearrange which stat points go where, based on that armor's total stat points, via a vendor, consumable, or the same way as it is with your element.
For weapons - Add a feature to either Banshee-44 or Ada-1, that would allow you to reforge a weapon (both masterwork stat and the 2 perks) to have the perks you want. The way this would work would be way different from Destiny 1, though. When you take the weapon you want reforged to the vendor, you will choose the masterwork stat first, then select the 2 perks you want.
You then pay a hefty fee and the vendor will take your weapon and give you a quest with perk related objectives to complete (getting kills with said perk active, or simply activating the perk itself). Objectives can only be completed in either Gambit, Crucible, Strikes, Raids, Trials, or the current seasonal activity. You must complete both objectives before returning to the vendor with your newly reforged weapon.
What do you think?
On a different topic, I noticed that Pulse Monitor is getting a nice buff, and I think Underdog and Eye of the Storm could also use buffs.
Underdog - reloading when the reload boost is active boosts weapon damage for a short time (like kill clip)
Eye of the Storm - buffs to handling, accuracy, and an added range. Getting a kill (or precision kill) while eye of the storm is active starts health regen and/or boosts recovery speed.
I think you have a recipe to break the game. Reforging/crafting is poison to a loot game. This game's gear systems don't have anywhere near the depth or the layers of RNG necessary to support that. I play a couple hours a night....and within a month (through just weapon bounties) I had every roll of every weapon I wanted from this seasons batch. Throw reforging into that....and you cut that time in at least half. Plus you take away any fun or excitement from loot drops. As everything just becomes raw material for the weapon you essentially want to build. Destiny is a loot game. Not a crafting game.

Yeah I agree. Most wont agree to re-rolling weapons but it would definitely get people back into the game.
