I'm currently grinding for Luna's Howl and I'm on the solar kills step. Upon realizing that using Hard Light would be the easiest method to complete this, I took it into the Crucible only to find that every time I die, I have to reload twice to get the solar rounds before going into a fight. It's inconvenient, a time waster, and hurts my team when I'm not there when they need me because I'm reloading my Hard Light.
Also in PvE, this issue occurs a lot when I'm faced with enemies who have solar shields, and when I die, I waste more time by reloading twice AGAIN. I have no clue why Bungie hasn't made it so that the element is retained upon death, but there seems to be literally no point to it. It seems like an easy fix too, so please fix it, Bungie.
If you agree with this, please upvote so it could gain the attention of Bungie.

I believe it's set to x element on spawn as opposed to x element was last used so x element is now base element until y or z is activated. It's set that way probably because it was easier to code in as they don't have to program a call back code to scan a hardlights last used element every time you spawn

I thought it was solar hand cannons only Trust or sunshot
-
Have you tried not dying?
-
If you’re going for Luna’s I suggest using Trust, it’s consistent, a hand cannon which the quest requires and it’s solar. The static roll that the drifter sells is pretty solid
-
In year 1 you had to pick which element it was in the perk slots. Dont know why they changed it to hold reload to change.
-
I would honestly recommend using trust to go for lunas howl as it’s easy to acquire and it’s a solar hand cannon, seeing as most of the quest requires either solar kills or hand cannon kills, this is definitely a better option. It’s a 180 RPM hand cannon making the recoil super controllable for if you don’t like normal hand cannons, hope this helps

Would fixing it make sense? Would it improve your game experience? Would it make the weapon feel better? If you answered “yes” to all of these questions, then you can bet your ass Bungie will do nothing.

It's not just hardlight, borealis does this too. I ran into that fun little tidbit when I was farming for worldline zero and having to reload a bunch to get to the element I was on when I died.

Yeah this game really sucks
-
That is annoying...
-
It would be a nice quality of life change
-
this has been brought up many times b4 but still a good request nonetheless. Bump👍
-
Yeah I'll upvote that
-
Good luck on the Luna grind
-
It’s not a bug so it doesn’t need fixed, you’re asking for a change
-
Yeah not a massive issue but a good QOL change that would make hardlight enjoyable
-
Always thought you should be able to select the default damage type for the weapons that can do this. There’s a sniper with same ability.
-
I think the most annoying thing is doing it when trying to revive a teammate, but I do see your point!
-
Same for cerberus and borealis, should maintain your setting unless changed.
-
Just get yourself a galliard auto from the forges or the summoner from trials and then you don't have to worry about it although I agree it's annoying having to change the set element after you die a few times but I'd rather bungie work on more trying matters than waste resources to give a quality of life update to borealis and hardlight

It's so annoying. Made me stop using Hard Light (before the 2 buffs)

Edited by The Hermit IX: 5/23/2020 4:39:15 AMThey need to add a lock button. Drives me nuts when trying to open a chest or pick up world materials and it moves to the next energy type.

Mindbenders shotgun crayon mode!

This is what more people need to be talking about

I've never been a fan of hard light or autos for that matter but... now that hard light is stupid crazy and I'm with you, just finished 100 HC kills toward Luna a few weeks ago so I broke out Hard Light for the solar kills. Figured it was better than using Jotuun or any random solar weapon. I've waited this long might as well take advantage of Hard Light for the solar kills. But this drove me crazy. I'd get a bunch of kills and realize I forget to swap elementals after I revived. I also ran it in some strikes for X elemental kills or whatever. Again, in of the rare instance I went down annoying that I had to change it and often times forgetting to. The weapon should, any weapon for that matter that can be swapped between elementals should retain it's elemental setting until manually changed or unequipped. Just because I die it shouldn't mean it defaults back to void. This goes not only for Hard Light but Borealis and any other weapons that utilize this feature.
