Call of Duty started this for F2P Warzone. New accounts require a valid phone number to create a new account. This is a great way to heavily damper the creation of burner accounts. Things like how google enables a new phone number (Not familiar with it) apparently don't work..... To top things off, they have also made it so confirmed cheaters instead of getting banned right away.... they are placed into special "cheaters only" matchmaking... Destiny NEEDS this. This has to be the easiest way to lower the hackers.... significantly easier than trying to develop a proper anti-cheat system..... That said.... not sure if that's capable with Steam.... as you play Destiny with a steam account, not a Destiny account.... But my god did Activision do it right with CoD.
