One of the reasons why there are so many cheaters on this game...
This account I am making this post on is banned. This ban wasn't for cheating though, I never even thought about hacking on this game in the 1500+ hours I played it, since D1 year 1. When my account was banned however, that mentality changed.
"If Bungie is going to ban completely innocent players for doing nothing, then why shouldn't I cheat?" I thought. So I did. And along with a number of other people who have the same exact story, I installed PerfectAim on an alternate account. There is at least 10 people I have talked to who have been banned unfairly and now cheat.
The stupidest thing about this whole situation is that I haven't actually been banned on my 2 other accounts... One I use aimbot on, and the other I do hard rage hacking. You would expect that if a player hits every snipe, no clips through wall, is 3x faster than other players, flying around and instant respawning they would get banned after a month, right? Nope.
Bungie has such bad support on it that players who aren't cheating get banned, and players who do cheat don't. I honestly hate the cheating on this game, and have stopped hacking as of recently.
I could find 30+ hackers every hour by myself, but Bungie can't seem to manage to do this as a large company. I know my account will never get unbanned either now, since Bungie also doesn't even respond to ban appeals. Unfair bans are the reason for everybody I know who cheats to begin cheating, and I'm going to assume since that's true that most cheaters in general cheat because of getting banned unfairly.
