Domund and Allo entered the training hall alone. Allo looked around the area that he was unfamiliar with while Domund moved towards a wall that held a large variety of weapons. From it, he grabbed two wooden swords. One was larger than the other.
Allo: “I take it that this is where you practice combat. I must say, it’s certainly advanced compared to training complexes that I’ve been too. I suppose I should expect as much from a castle.”
Domund tossed the smaller of the wooden swords to Allo and it landed near his feet.
Allo: “You want to spar with me? I’ll have you know that I’m not the best teacher when it comes to combat. Besides, shouldn’t we wait until tomorrow?”
Domund pointed his wooden long sword at Allo and entered a fighting stance. Allo sighed.
Allo: “You certainly are stubborn, Dommie. Fine, but only one match. It’s getting late and I don’t want to walk home in the dark while drenched in sweat.”
Allo crouched down to grab the wooden sword that Domund tossed him. The second he touched the hilt, Domund charged at him, trying to attack Allo while he was still low on the gravelly ground. Allo quickly rolled out of the way and moved further away from Domund.
Domund moved faster than he did before towards Allo in another attempt to strike. As Domund swung his blade, Allo slid underneath it towards the back of Domund. He quickly got up and swung his sword at his student’s blind spot, but the sword broke apart as it made contact with Domund.
The prince smiled as he turned around and heavily swung his blade towards his new teacher. Allo barely managed to duck in time and the sword knocked off his hat. He once again backed up from his student, but didn’t maintain his distance for long as Domund closes in on him.
Allo, realizing that he was at a disadvantage, relied on the environment as a weapon. He kicked up some of the gravel on the ground in Domund’s face, blinding him. Before Domund managed to recover, Allo used his broken, wooden sword to disarm the wide open prince. The long sword flew out of Domund’s hands and into Allo’s. He then pointed both blades towards his student, signaling that the fight is over.
Allo: “You never wanted to have a friendly spar with me. The sword you gave me was not only inferior in size, but also worn out. And let’s not forget that you attacked me when I was still preparing. This was a test, wasn’t it?”
Domund stared into Allo’s eyes. After a moment of silence, he replied.
Domund: “I wanted to see if you were truly better than me. If you could best me with such disadvantages, then you really are superior.”
Allo: “Why?”
Domund: “I can’t learn from a teacher that’s inferior to me. At least, nothing that will help me improve.”
Allo: “I see. So, did you only want to learn combat skills from me?”
Domund: “Not exactly. I wanted you to teach me something else.”
Allo: “And that would be?”
Domund: “What’s it like beyond Paradisum?”
Allo: “What do you mean?”
Domund: “You’ve been to other realms, right? Tell me about some of them.”
Allo: “Hmm. Well, it would be pretty complicated to describe even one of them. Every realm I’ve been to is vastly different than here. Besides, shouldn’t you want to know more about Paradisum if you want to rule it?”
Domund: “I have devoted much of my time to learning about our land, society and beliefs, including the theory of The 8 Principles. I want to know about how other realms think and act.”
Allo: “Well then, in order for you to properly learn, I suppose I’ll just have to show you.”
