Long time Destiny player, First time posting! 2 seasons ago I set the goal of getting the Unbroken seal, especially with the introduction of the exciting freelance playlist - as I am a solo player. I love PvP, I’ve worked hard and hold a 1.4KDA, and I reached Legend in the last 2 seasons. I’m currently stuck in Mythic 2, and even though I’m so close, I don’t think I want to put myself through this grind anymore.
The Glory system is fundamentally broken. Requiring win streaks to progress — not evaluations of performance— is the most soul-crushing progression I’ve ever seen. Especially when it’s not uncommon to load in with uneven teams, have teammates leave, network errors (beaver, anteater, “insert animal here”), matchmake with teammates ranked much lower than I. It’s maddening to me that this hasn’t been addressed, that any of these problems out of my control will result in a loss, forfeit my streak, lower my rank, and undo literal hours of work. It makes me feel cursed.
And furthermore, if the rank system is not used to determine skill, and instead of a secret back end skill rating is, what is the point of the penalizing me Glory points on losses? Why not adopt the Gambit system and reward points on wins and nothing on losses?
It really sucks, I’m so close to my goal of the Unbroken seal, but it no longer feels worth it to punish myself through this process. This game should be fun, and the game itself IS fun, but this arbitrary pointless grind is not.

Edited by RTshadows: 4/9/2020 3:41:05 PMI played comp religiously last week and I can vividly remember about three or four games where I had 20 plus defeats with a 2.0 KD on the game, but STILL LOST. I played better than everybody in the lobby and somehow that warrants me losing points? Give me a break. I started at like 4980 and dropped all the way to 4200. That was the most soul crushing experience I think I’ve ever had. Haven’t even gotten it all back, I’ve stagnated around 4600 give or take. I find it hard to jump back when it’s clear as day matchmaking is rigged to keep everybody at 50 percent win loss. I shouldn’t say clear as day, that’s literally how matchmaking works. Just looks at my recent game history, win, loss, win, loss, win, loss. It’s gotten to the point I can literally predict the outcome of my next game based on the my current. 4-0 blowout? Get ready for a stomping next game. 0-4 blowout on the other side? The game gives you a free gimme game as an apology.

it's the scourge of lobby balancing. i've had runs where i go positive kd for like 7 or 8 games but i'm the only one on my team that does and of course we lose. That kinda sucks cause you're not playing bad your teammates are. And i'm talking solo comp where you don't have a choice. They drop out or go afk. And the lobby balancing were you're at 4k and they stick you with a bunch of blue gun teammates or guys at 1000 glory sucks. the first season of solo comp it was fine. Since then it seems the matchmaking is horrible.

This isn’t SBMM. It’s Kevin Smith’s vision of what makes a great Friday night - remember last August? “skill match should ensure a wider variety of matches, regardless of player skill. Some matches should be tense and thrilling, while other matches should be stomps.” They’re not using skill to set up a match that you can make a difference in. Bungie is using skill to engineer a loss or a win before the match even starts. There’s a difference between having ranked playlists, fair fights, and this.

Point system is silly to me, to win 2 and lose 2 and be down on points just shouldn’t happen
-
I have been going up and down between 4000-5000 a lot this season. I already have unbroken and all the pinnacles I play for fun. But the season it seems like the matchmaking is rigged. Rarely is it even teams In solo comp. It is lopsided 80% of the time so that you win 50% of your games. It is rarely a close evenly matched game but instead lopsided.
-
Requires win streaks but then forces a 50/50 win/lose ratio. It's pure genius if you have no brain and don't think about it.

What happened to the promise of that glory rewarded would be basewd on individual performance. Luke smith said in the directors cut that glory would be rewarded based on individual performance whaty happended to that promise Luke.???? when i do well and end up on the loosing team i loose just as many points if end top of my team or bottom if i have a 4kda or a 2kda.

Sadly I don't think we'll see any movement on changing how the Competitive playlist works. I think Bungie even knows their game is dying a slow death and at this point won't devote any resources to this issue and will only make changes to Trials. I jumped onto Twitch last night and Destiny 2 was at around 6k viewers. Not even on the popular games list. As competitive pvp is the only thing I find of interest atm this issue might be what finally drives me away and on to other games.

I literally posted the gambit suggestion for glory last week 🤣 I feel your pain though. Been hovering around 5000 for 2-3 weeks now. It’s soul crushing to say the least. Seriously thought about paying for a carry on the last 500 points since it’s obvious I’m not gonna get there myself.
-
Thank you I been saying this for months... It's damn near impossible to go legend in solo comp cause all the bs then when it doesn't happen you get shit teamates
-
No go on PC and add cheaters in every other game.
-
Bungie intentionally designed comp this way to keep you frozen in the 50/50 cycle....its quite ingenious actually to keep players treading in water as another grind
-
The worst bit about is is being put in a lobby of 3 Americans (im in Australia) with a 250ms ping advantage. Why the matchmaking isn’t limited by region is beyond me.
-
Same here, just need 1 more legendary to get unbroken. I got to 5380 points and boom fell down to 3980. Got matched into 2v3 situations or players just jumping off maps or players leaving. Plus of course out played by better players which is fair enough. Bungo 100% fix the winning ratio......IMO
-
Its broken yes. Bungie manipulates games, because of 50/50 win rate.
-
Feel you bro, im in the same boat I just need 2 more Legend ranks and I’m at mythic 1 right now halfway through it. I just want to get the unbroken seal but it’s tough, and it’s really tough now that it’s nothing but hard light. A gun that has no damage fall off doesn’t require you to do anything but hold a button down and it gets bonus damage when it hits you off a ricochet which all rounds fired do. I’ve never complained about weapons before. Never, but hard light is way too good. And in the hands of a really skilled player, good god damn luck.

One thing that would really help is if some (many, actually) Guardians would learn that madly rushing off each time they spawn is not a good strategy in Survival. Or not sticking together. In many maps, there are plenty of places where teams can control approach zones, support each other, and generally fight carefully. But nope, usually, it's the mad rush forward, even when there's a fusillade of fire coming down a lane. Just rush on forward spraying their weapon hoping for a kill. Oh well, such as life. It's just something that is going to happen in PvP no matter if I like it or not.

Edited by eggs.: 4/10/2020 3:33:18 AMI need so much help. I haven’t even gotten to Fabled, and Recluse is waiting. I’m at Brave III. I’m so bad at video games. Oh well, I’ll keep trying. I guess the reason it’s called Unbroken, is because you haven’t cracked under the stress. I know, it’s a video game, blah blah, but I feel really stressed when whenever I enter comp. Maybe I should just strictly play Quickplay, I probably belong there, according to my K/D. It’s like .60 or something. What is the best Loadout? I’m using Chaperone, Waking Vigil. Should I cheese with Hard Light just to get Recluse?

Edited by Nicolaus: 4/10/2020 1:33:21 AMThe comp system isn’t as broken as he makes it seem. Is it frustrating that a loss counts as much as 1.5 wins? Yes Is it frustrating that players get DC’d or you get bad teammates? Yes Is there a ‘fundamental flaw’ with the competitive game mode? No The Competitive playlist rewards winning. If it was any easier nearly everyone would have the unbroken seal. I’ve reached 5500 already this season, and yes it was quite the feat this season. Each new season brings a different meta, and you must adapt to the meta in order to have success. Destiny’s crucible isn’t all about gun skill.. you have to actually outplay your opponents as well as outgun them. To the author - Don’t take this the wrong way, but it takes a lot of skill to get legend, and if you’re not up to the task this season then you don’t have what it takes to get the unbroken seal anyways. Getting to legend once you reach the mythic rank heavily relies on getting on a win streak in order to rank up. Getting on a win streak of 5 and keeping it takes a lot of skill. I say this because sometimes you will get bad teammates and you need to learn how to carry and play your lives. It’s not rocket science. Just adapt your play style to those you’re playing against, and then you should have some success

If you or anyone needs help on Xbox just message me. I am not baby Jesus but I am ok at pvp.

Edited by blade329: 4/9/2020 8:52:18 PMLucky you. I can't even get to Legend even once. I'm stuck at Mythic II as well. I'm only a 1.0k/d, so it's tough for me. The Glory system needs an overhaul.
-
Edited by Sweet Lew 88: 4/9/2020 6:07:52 PMIt's always had streaks to progress in glory. Losses don't totally reset streaks, it's way easier than ever before. If it's too tough, maybe it's time to stop. Many people have made it there before you and will after you, so I think it's fine as is. To play solo, you need lots of skill and patience, to endure team mate issues and to carry team mates, doesn't sound like you have it.
-
Gaining glory is the easiest it’s ever been since they changed it. Do people not remember the old glory system? Less points gained, immediate loss of whole streak, more points lost for a loss. It’s fine as is, you just have to be persistent.
-
Welcome to the results of SBMM.
-
I was in fabeled 3 for a few weeks then I changed up my aggressive style and lfg’d for a third. Grinded out to legend in one late night. It can be done, with patience
-
Keep practicing, you'll get better eventually. 👍
