RP in Offtopic is kinda... chaotic, and that's totally fine. But I think it would be cool if we had one battle system to spread across all the rp's (of course you wouldn't have to use it if you didn't want to). You could even carry weapons and such you've earned over to other rp's. Would anybody be interested?

Edited by BusyBadger: 4/9/2020 6:32:46 PMThe Hero System is probably the best system to cover all the craziness from different players/characters inclusive of genres of every type with a well designed point based character creation system, and additional character points available if weaknesses (called disadvantages in the Hero System) of equivalent value(s) are taken (BALANCE!). The experience/reward system uses those same character creation points as the reward, i.e., the most you play, the more you get rewarded and the "better" the character becomes. Awarded experience points can also be used to "buy off" disadvantages. Adding new powers or removing disadvantages should always be RPed. Points csn be saved up to be used later for larger "purchases." I can't imagine anyone here really being interested in the system though. It's also incredibly complex and I cant imagine most here using it without complaining about "the maths make my head hurt." More importantly though, and Wyo touched on this, it would necessitate balance, limitations and actual accountability. It'd never happen. But it's a nice thought.

Is it that time again? I am going to put this out here for you & others to consider, but if you host the RP, you are God, period. You make the rules, set limitations & get a character sheet. If someone is OP, reject it politely & explain why. A good DM is loved today, hated tomorrow & loved the following day.

I don’t roleplay, but not possible.

The only way this would work is if the DM in question helped build the characters to begin with. The thing is, with a free RP system, abilities can vary wildly. Just stop for a minute to imagine all the buffs & debuffs that would have to be made. Some, like burn, would be universal, but then someone would chime in with “see, my weapon here is unique, and it....”. I think the closest we can do is this; A. Aside from the DM, nobody can say how their moves affected the target B. Every comment is one “turn”. What that means depends on the DM, but a reliable guess is one move, one action. Other than that, though, things are just way too varied.
You could even carry weapons and such you've earned over to other rp's
I already do this. (Thank you Contrast for my Crimson boi.)

As was said, it's been attempted a few times but most people cant agree on a system. I just use D&D 5e stuff since it's what I'm most familiar with. I've got a little system I'm going to try out in my next RP and see how it goes. Basically, just leave it up to individual hosts to run things as they see fit. If you encounter an issue with someone's bullshit, out bullshit them or ignore them.

This is kinda what I was going into with the whole “uniform currency” thing, I’ve heard discussion of it before but I think we should actually try.

Edited by Polycephalon: 4/7/2020 11:01:24 PMI hate to sound pessimistic, but we’ve been beating this dead horse for as long as I can remember. A unified system will never work, although a simple power scale has seen some fruit.
https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/254028492/0/0
