Below are my suggestions and opinions for trials and how to make it more replayable for casual and hardcore players. Please remember it is okay to disagree and the more people discuss this the more we can help.
1) Adept weapons with intrinsic perk of snapshot for primaries only OR celerity
2) Weapons and armour available from bounties just like D1
3) Adept armour OR trials specific lighthouse mods (gain +10 recovery OR mobility OR resilience when last guardian standing but does not stack above 100)
4) Ornaments available from lighthouse, or potentially could use a currency system (1 “fragment” each week for reaching 7 wins and 10 from going flawless, you buy the ornaments from saint 14 for 10 “fragments” Which gives Both casual and hardcore players a grind)
5) A special emblem for completing passage of confidence. Could reward a ship/shader also
6) Only weapons and armour obtained that week available from saint 14. Smaller loot pool = higher quality rewards
7) Planetary materials, weapon parts etc from lighthouse chest. Higher chance/guarantee of ascendant shard from flawless each time
8) More tokens from end of card
Again, all of these are my opinion and others have been said elsewhere already, but it is important to voice opinion.

Much like Raids, Trials should be END GAME, they should bring back adept weapons and ornamented armor for hardcore people to chase. And the regular armor for regulars to chase, Destiny needs better high tier loot rewards in it's endgame challenges, and hay if you don't like it then tough luck. Not everyone can have everything, im bummed out I didn't get the solstice of hero's armor but I'm not whining about it
