Player retention and loot systems

The above argument is the most valid for why this purposed new system should be scrapped. I like many of the others have already went and deleted every quest for pinnacle/ritual weapons, seeing them as completely worthless now. I enjoy the game and will probably continue to play, but I will no longer grind for any weapon in the game that has an expiration date on it. This means that new weapon content created by Bungie is now completely worthless and those new weapons that they are hoping to keep me engaged and spending money will not do so. This also means that I will be spending less time playing the game due to a large amount of the content being created now is worthless as well. So the most common retort to the above argument is "Just go play something else". A valid argument and one that I will probably do, but the problem with this argument is that if all the people that feel the way I do go and play something else Destiny 2 will lose its player base. Enjoy waiting even longer to find Guardians for any cooperative activity as we all jump ship and leave Destiny 2 to slowly sink below the waves.

  • I have seen a lot of post against weapon retirement and I agree that it is a terrible idea. It undermines one of the core foundations of a looter shooter, loot will no longer matter. I have also seen a lot of the arguments for why this should happen or what you should do if you do not agree with the change, but the most important one is "Stop complaining and give a suggestion for a better system". Well here is the suggestion. My idea will not make either side completely happy but will give both what they want. First, loot retirement would happen. Second, at the end of the season the player would be able to select a number of weapons to be grandfathered into the new system, lets say five. These weapons would be able to be used in pinnacle activities and continue to be leveled up, all other weapons would remain frozen at the lower light levels. Last, at the end of the next season the player would be given the same option to retain a number of weapons for possible use in pinnacle activities. This would continue in this cycle. If Bungie believes that certain weapons are not eligible for grandfathering they could, but this information should be transparent from the beginning, no pinnacle/ritual weapons etc.... With this system both sides are happy, new loot matters to fell in those holes of the items that can no longer be used in pinnacle activities but I get to keep my Trust, yes one of the weapons I hold near and dear to my heart is the Trust, I really do not like or use any of the current pinnacle/ritual weapons. I will admit my idea is not perfect, but I feel it is better than Bungie's. It respects the player's time, money, and hard work that went into acquiring those old weapons.
