Kairos finishes tinkering with the new frame after about an hour of work. He stands up and wipes his brow. "Well, you're lucky I was here or this frame would have been walking backwards!" He laughs a bit before realizing he's the only one laughing. He clears his throat and wipes his nose quick.
Icarus comes out from his ship with a small crate. "Move. And keep your voices down. Holiday, if you even say a word about this I swear, I'll shut down every project you have." He places the box down with a thud before grabbing the head of the frame and tearing it off completely.
Holiday stands and slowly backs away. "Hey, uh.. whatcha got there?"
Indigo leans in with a smile. "I recognize that box. Are you sure you want to do this here?"
Kairos looks wildly confused. "Uh, is this gonna be illegal? Because I'm tryna stay under the radar right now." He whispers to Penny, "Not all that silver I used was mine."
Icarus doesn't answer anyone. He takes off the lid of the box and lifts out a stock Exo head with a modified adapter on the bottom.
Kairos and Holiday lurch back and begin frantically looking around, making sure no one else is watching. "Where in the hell did you get your hands on that!?" Kairos yells in a raspy whisper.
Indigo ponders for a moment. "So, did you just test Failsafes file on Proxy to see if it would work on a frame?" She hops down and take the Exo head from him.
Kairos is still in amazement. Holiday speaks up, "Look, I can't condone this if you killed someone for that.. head." She shutters at the word.
Icarus looks up at Indigo, "Yeah, I've been testing her files in my helmet, the ship, a frame, and now..." he looks at the head again, "an Exo." He begins disassembling the inner neck pieces of the frame body to reveal the inner mechanism that lines up with the modified piece on the bottom of the Exo head.
Indigo chuckles, "He's been working on that head for a while now. I never knew what he needed it for but now.. well, here we are."
Icarus smiles as he fits the head into the slot and closes a few latches. "The frame won't have any external power source like Proxy has. So, for my final test..." he unplugs Failsafes copied file from Proxy, causing all of the lights to flash back to the standard white color. He inserts the file into an external port on the back of the Exo head and installs the file again. "...let's see if Failsafe can power herself."
The frame flickers and jolts. Failsafes eyes and mouth glow with the usual yellowish color from before. She sits up and stares at her Vex legs. Her light flashes red briefly. "Ironic." She moves her head around and starts taking in her surroundings again. Her voice soothes. "Is that... Is that what color looks like?" She sounds like she's about to cry. She moves her arms as fluidly as an Exo would. She looks at a mirror fixed to the wall behind Icarus. "Captain.. I.. I'm alive!" She hops up and catches her balance on the new Vex legs. Once she finds her balance, she attempts the dance she did earlier in Proxys body. Her movements are smooth and gentle. She slows down and looks to Icarus with real emotion on her new face. "C- Captain?"
Everyone is dead silent. Icarus hesitates, "Yeah Failsafe?" She leaps forward and hugs him with the force of a freight train. He is slammed into the wall, still in full embrace.
Failsafe loosens slightly, "I have waited my entire existence to be able to feel something more than loss. Today, you have given me more than I have ever experienced in my hundreds of years of rotting on that forsaken planetoid!" Her lights dim to red again. "So, uh.. thanks. I guess." She let's go and looks at her frame again.
Icarus chuckles, "we can work on how the frame looks later. I know it's a little, uh.. bare right now."
She cuts him off. "It's perfect!"
