Imagine, for some reason, you where given the power to create a island. The island the middle of any ocean of your choose and could be any reasonable size for islands in the ocean you chose. You can design anything on this islands from volcanoes, ancient caverns, and even more fantasy aspects like magic. What would you create?
I haven’t posted anything in a while so why not. I’m bored. I need more ideas to actually post more often, or a less busy schedule.
In the middle of a beautiful lake in Western Canada. On one side it opens up to the lake’s open water, the lake being so big that you can’t see the other side, just calm beautiful water all the way to the horizon. On the other side, about a 5 minute boat trip, a dock, boathouse, and small cabin with garage for cars protrudes from the shore against a forest backdrop. Behind the forest, mountains. The side of the island that is visible from the shore is thick with trees. Not pine trees like the rest of the forest, but red oak, weeping willows, flowering blossoming trees creating beautiful multicolored tarps over the ground below. From the dock, a cozy path sprinkled with yellow, pink, purple, orange, red, green, leaves and petals shaded and colored by the light that pokes through the canopy. The sound of birds and small wildlife add to the soft ambient music that acts as a quiet soundtrack. The path leads to a large open area where smaller plants are curated and manicured, a walkway and short stone walls lead to a large mansion of a log cabin. Multiple levels and viewing decks, utilizing larger trees for structural support, and although large, seems to fit perfectly to create a perfect balance of wild nature, manicured landscaping, and careful architecture blending together in harmony. Off the side of the house, a slightly raised stone plateau with a natural hot spring. A natural water source pushing up clear, hot, clean water creating a gorgeous waterfall over the edge to a small river that winds off toward the shore. Climbing up to the pools of water in the stone, a small stone structure acts as a pool house. Opposite the waterfall, the water flows off of the rocks to create smaller waterfalls and pools, like steps that easily descend to create another river that flows off into some trees in the opposite direction of the house. Following the winding path of the river is a path with an occasional rope bridge to cross the curvier parts of the river. Strolling through the trees in this direction you may hear happy squeals and playful chattering of the river otters who call this area home. The small river opens up to a beach that stretches around a small lake, as the beach curves around, mudbanks slope upward where the otters delightfully slide into the river with a splash before dipping into the water to scoop up a clam and float around on their backs. The otters and other wildlife have no fear of humanity, so it wouldn’t be unheard of to join the otters to slide and swim and play in the water. At the top of the muddy riverbank slopes, stone cliffs to jump from into the deep waters below, and a few rope swings hang from trees. Throughout the island, small footpaths used by humans and animals alike lead to small, cozy areas of interest. A copse with a sheltered bench and table for picnics, a hammock hanging between two trees in a particularly beautiful area, and and open stretch of lush grass leads to the beach on the side of the island with the water view. There is modest little cabin with an outside deck, gazebo, and glass ceiling so at night, people could lay by the huge stone fireplace and watch the stars and northern lights.

Basically DN7C just on an island. Reasonable ranch style house. Nuclear family style equipped (beds, bath, etc) but as a bachelor pad basically. Hooked tf up garage. Think like... Han's Garage from Tokyo Drift. Noice shop downstairs, guest-ish quarters upstairs. Naturally it would come pre equipped with some sort of dock arrangement and some type of landing craft or barge I could use to ferry some tonnage and get supplies from the mainland when need be. Couple miles out, it'd be a pain but far from "absolutely out of the question pain in the ass". A deterrent to some yet attractive to others. Undecided on whether semi-tourist friendly or full on private. Likely a "do I know you" or "what are you filming" situation.

Concealed within a fog bank and surrounded by large shards of jagged obsidian that wreck ships foolish enough to approach. Beaches of black sand and red moss give way to a swamp of willow trees, carnivorous flowers, creeping thorny vines, and large patches of moss, all bioluminescent in deep shades of blues, reds, and purples. Occupied by strange creatures adapted to this alien ecosystem. Felines, bats, and large insects all bioluminescent aswell. But also strange serpentine creatures with scales, leathery wings, too many blades legs, and faces like blooming flowers full of teeth. At the center of the island, rising from the brackish waters, a ziggurat of bismuth. A gleaming maze of ramps and passages leading to the peak where a dim greenish light pulses from the edges along a triangular pit. Music can be heard faintly from the pit, but despite the light, all is darkness.
And that's all I've got off the top of my head. Still, fun writing exercise, got me in the mood to work on other things. Thanks!
It would be a forested island full of Sequoia trees. In the center there would be a citadel made of black, glistening metal. It would have a more pointed feel to the tops of the towers and walls. The island would be guarded by soldiers wearing armor made of bone, wielding swords of black metal with streaks of purple through it. The citadel itself would be built around the outside of a mountain, clinging to the side. The central spire would come out of the too of the mountain a bit and end in a sharp looking point. The sky would always be cloudless and blue during the day, and still cloudless and shining with stars during the night.

You step onto the haunted shores, and gaze up to see an unnatural swirl of sickly greens and blacks. You can’t help but feel as though something is reaching for you from above—an invisible, twisted presence, extending its horrid grip and creeping its fingers around your soul. And perhaps, it had already succeeded to some degree. You didn’t feel right in this place. Beneath your feet, the sands squirmed, and crawled, shifting out of the way of each step, which made walking difficult. You were relieved to finally be off the beach. The ground here, solid, and for a moment things almost seemed to be normal. That changed when you tried to lift your foot, and found the grass gripping, and clawing at your leg, trying as hard as it could to pull you down. You rip free of its grasp, and begin to run, awkwardly stumbling along, until you collapse onto a cold stone surface. In front of you, sitting in the center of the island, was a massive stone pillar, that reached up as far as you could see. Every inch of its surface was covered in glowing orange runes, made up of long elegant swirls, dancing in a strange harmonic contrast with sharp and brutal angles. You slowly approach, and place your hand up against the stone. Your eyes open, burning the same fiery orange as the tower, and you see it. There was something in the sky, orange and fiery. It was like a sun, but unstable, and collapsing, pouring down like an invisible orange rain, seeping into the ground, and springing the island to life. You could feel the drops falling onto your face, and soak into your skin, coursing through your being, and pooling up at your soul. Yes, this was the thing you felt before, reaching for you. You stand there is awe and silence for a moment, and then your hand moves without you. You find yourself walking back towards the shore, unable to stop. Your movements were jerky, and unnatural, like a puppet on strings. Once you reach the sands, they shift out of your way, and you collapse into the pit it had dug for you. The sand begins to fall back into place, and bury you underneath. For a moment, you notice it once again, that presence in the sky. It was all around you. Not like the rain, that fell aimlessly from the sky, nor like the grass desperately hanging on, and not like the sand passively moving out of the way. No, it felt more like hundreds of puppets, whose strings had been cut, left buried under the sand.
Living islands! Yay! (I didn’t proof-read this at all, and wrote it while I was somewhat distracted, so it might be totally stupid!)
A sentient island made completely out of crystals. If the island senses danger it can raise an army of crystal beasts and warriors to defend it. The core of the island is a massive blue crystal deep below the surface and it is what allows the island to grow. Destroying the core will still leave the island intact, but it will no longer be able to defend itself or grow further. And also the crystals glow... because I want them to.

Very isolated. Lots of defenses and safe areas. Looks futuristic.

Edited by Sylver: 2/28/2020 6:57:14 PM*****an
lemme think
A huge island known as Anvil. It’s something of a plateau that sharply rises half a mile above the sea. The only access to huge city above is from the ports is mechanical elevator systems. The ocean below and around the island city is known only as the Myst. As expected, it’s filled with an endless fog and is nearly impossible to navigate save for pre-ratified paths. Within the ocean swells demonic, twisted-humanoid creatures called Echos. Echo swarms can be heard by the reverberating screeches they emanate, and can easily destroy towns and ships. However, Echos are dissuaded by any light save for the bioluminescent globes across their bodies, which they close off when in the presence of other light. To stave off Echos, Anvil is fitted with seven massive sphere-beacons positioned halfway up the cliffs, which activate at night and can be seen by each of Anvil’s seven colony islands. Because the beacons only activate at night, ships can only navigate at this time, which is also when the Echos come out.
This probably has a lot of holes but I spent like under five minutes on it
An island rests in the middle of the sea. Perfectly circular, four mountain ranges lead inland to form perfect quarters. Each quarter is forever locked in one season. To the north, the forests and smaller mountains lie coated in a bitter snow, creating a hardened, brutal people. To the south, the dunes seas lie forever trapped in summer, populated by nomadic tribes of conservative, deeply spiritual people. To the east, a pleasant, unending spring has shaped a softer, more gentle people to live on the plains, who attempt to please everyone. To the east, the fall shaped the people who lived within the somewhat forested area into colder, but still pleasant people. In the center lies one tall, black, jagged mountain with four smaller mountains near it, each in a respective quadrant. The area around them is completely torched, unaffected by the seasons. Little manages to survive the barren wasteland, and what does becomes savage, and dangerous. At the peak of the tall mountain lies a fortress, carved from black stone. Within lies a great magical power source, but to gain entrance one must slay the four large creatures that prowl the smaller mountains. No one has yet survived such a task. To the south lies an inordinately large scorpion, almost twice the size of a man and twenty times more vicious than its smaller cousins. To the east is the mountain containing a majestic elk, almost as large as the scorpion. The elk has a quiet, passive demeanor, but the ability to sense one's disposition has spelled doom for many a wanderer. To the west prowls an enormous bear, larger even than the scorpion. This beast can withstand even the greatest of blows with barely a flinch, mauling unwary travelers to shreds. To the north lies the most dangerous of all. At the peak of the mountain lies a large lake, pristine and still. Yet beneath lies a deadly beast, given the name sea dragon for its tenacity and anger. No man can enter the water without it knowing. Incredibly fast despite its large size, it can be there and gone before you realize that you've lost half your body. Many a man has tried to see it for themself, but to no avail, for none live to tell the tale.

Well if I’m stuck on an island I’ll need a Costa there for starters

A hidden island that only allows a single human on it, once they die. The island locks down. A great place for quiet.

I'm going to stretch things. "An island... Hmm... The ocean of space... A rock drifting in the tides of a sea of stars... Hmm... Yes, I quite like that idea." I will return, with something more.

I like the idea of this thread, but currently I’ve got nothing, so bump! I’ll be back if I come up with something!

I will need to come back to this at some point.
