From what I was reading in the TWAB, it looks like what was mentioned about them work with my playstyle using swords. I've always had a preference to using light attacks over heavy attacks, so I doubt the energy mechanic will hinder me too much. There are some interesting points I'd like to point out about the changes though.
- The cleave mechanic being added to all swords might solve the issue with hitting dead bodies and nullifying the sword swings. I wonder if this might have any other benefits against these types of issues.
- Blocking only using the energy mechanic could make swords stand out in the Crucible better. It might bring back some of their old Destiny 1 Crucible glory a bit.
Shield Bypass
A portion of most Sword attacks can partially bypass elemental shields.
- The shield bypass. If I were to guess, swords are going to behave against shields similar to Bastion? So could that mean that swords are anti-Match Game now? If that's the case, well, heheheh…
I am curious about the damage and perk changes though. I have a Death's Razor with Tempered Edge, Whirlwind Blade and Tireless Blade (...and a Backup Mag mod), and it is my PvE Excalibur with over 11,000 kills, so I wonder how these changes will affect it. Can't wait to hear more about it.
...Wait, what's Infinite Guard going to do? I just had that thought while I was typing this. Does the sword energy last for a very long time or something?
I still wish there was more masterwork options though. Like a swing speed masterwork. I still miss using the Zephyr.
...I also can't help but feel that these changes are happening because of the Riven sword strat. Is Whirlwind Blade getting nerfed? I wonder.
I just realized that I could keep going on about this, so I'm just going to stop here.

It's a direct nerf until they specifically say if the heavy attack got a damage buff or not
