I want to specifically address the direction of, "you had to be there" moments. Long story short, these moments cannot be systematically controlled or created, and should not be a driving focus for content. Want to know everything I remember?
You had to be there on prestige calus with two primaries and a shotgun in heavy.
You had to be there when nightfalls were timed.
You had to be there when Reckoning bridge was absolutely insane with modifiers.
You had to be there when Promethus Lens broke crucible.
You had to be there when the whisper quest was discovered, when outbreak prime was discovered.
You had to be there when the meatball spawned and absolutely put everyone on their A game because of how rare it was.
Notice a pattern? None of these things were moments systematically catered to be "you had to be there" moments. They were all times in the game where things were just different. Where the direction of the game, at that time, was one way, and now it is another, with no chance of going back. Or, they were times when the community was in it all together, focused on the game as a whole, creating a moment not able to be replicated unless another similar activity joins us together.
Making an activity and taking it away as a game direction does not make these moments. Do you hear ANYONE saying "you had to be there for the Vex Offensive." No, and why? It was the direction of the game, to be taken away after a season. Nothing special happened in it. Nothing different about the game itself changed forever. No nerfs, buffs, crazy scenarios. Nothing.
Season of Dawn won't be remembered for the sun dial. It will only be remembered for the community quest for the exotic weapon. Thing is, a whole new activity did not need to be created (the sundial) to do this. Corridors of Time could have just been a secret discovery on Mercury.
My point is, moments of you had to be there cannot be created intentionally. You know what would make future moments?
Adding vendor refreshes (you had to be there when there were no vendor refreshes)
Adding strike loot (you had to be there when there wasn't any).
Adding trials (you had to be there when it wasn't...speaking of trials of the nine anyone?)
If Bungie really wants to CREATE moments, they need to make the game different than how it was in the past. Actual change. Not just timed content addition and removal. That is not the change anyone wants, and it does nothing for the direction they say they want to take.
