Handheld Supernova Still Has Consistency Issues, But it Has Nothing to Do With What Was Changed
While I don't especially think that Handheld Supernova is weak by any means and I don't think it needs a buff or anything, one of my main concerns with Handheld Supernova was left untouched. If you're really worried about how inconsistent it was to trigger it properly, you may as well look into it a bit more because it has other inconsistency problems.
If you have too much forward momentum when you attempt to throw a Handheld Supernova, it seems to collide with yourself and just instantly detonates, basically going nowhere towards your target and leaving you extremely vulnerable.
There is also some shenanigans occasionally with the hit detection where it appears to hit the target and actually PUSHES them around, but in many cases deals almost no damage. One day I'm going to use a man cannon with an ally behind me and try and see if I can kill them with collision damage. Grenade launchers can do that, so I'm wondering if there's some similar logic at play here.
One more thing to note is that where a lot of players reported a lot of success with using Handheld Supernova last season, a lot of them were also using Oppressive Darkness, which actually had a really big impact on how effective the grenade was in the Crucible. It's not the one-hitter like it was. It still can! But even where it should, it's still 50/50 now due to inconsistency.
