The Only Types of Weapons That Never Got the Year 2/Year 3 Treatment
This is a small summary of weapon types that we've never seen expanded on after Forsaken launched or are just a bit limited to this day. By "weapon types", I don't necessarily mean what they are by the intrinsic perks, but rather just in general what we don't have going around much like a type of foundry weapon.
---------- WEAPONS THAT NEVER GOT UPDATED ----------
- VEIST sidearms. I was watching some gameplay of some being used in the Crucible. They're known for being 360 rpm sidearms that shoot just about as fast as you can pull the trigger. There are only 2 VEIST sidearms in the game and they are both Year 1, one of them being completely unobtainable for new players.
- Omolon pulse rifles. We have a few of these from Year 1, one of them not being obtainable anymore. They are known for being Lightweight frames, though one of them is a Rapid-Fire frame. There are no updated ones in the game right now.
- Omolon sniper rifles. I haven't forgot that these existed. There is only 1 of these that players can currently obtain in the game and that is from Failsafe. To me, they're competitive-approved. In Destiny 2, they usually come as Adaptive frames, but there is one Rapid-Fire frame in the game and they've had a history of shooting fast since Destiny 1.
- Omolon grenade launchers. Better known as Precision frame grenade launchers. There are multiple of these in the game, but every single Precision frame is a Year 1 weapon. They're like special ammo grenade launchers, except they're heavy weapons with a bigger magazine. As far as I remember, there is only 2 Omolon grenade launchers that are Adaptive frames and they are a FWC weapon and a Year 2 Pinnacle weapon, Wendigo GL3. This note is mostly about Precision frames.
- Omolon SMGs (sort of). All of these are Year 1 Lightweight frame SMGs. But let's talk about this for a second. There was an SMG from last season that was supposed to be an updated Osiris forge weapon. Both versions of this SMG are supposed to be based off of Omolon SMGs. The one we got last season was called Subjunctive. Now, Omolon SMGs are known for a perk called Phase Mag. This perk slows down the rate of fire but increases the damage, basically changing the intrinsic behavior a little. The devs had an opportunity to add that perk back into the game as a random roll for Subjunctive since it was on the original version, but they did not. And you can't change the sights of the weapon into different Omolon sights either, so this weapon hardly has any Omolon elements in it at all, so I can't really call this an Omolon SMG. You missed an opportunity, Bungie.
- Hakke sidearms. Every Year 1 player remembers Minimum Distance. There were only a couple of these in Year 1 and one of them can't even be obtained anymore. They're known in Destiny 2 for being Precision frames, which don't appear often. In fact, the only Year 2+ Precision frame sidearm we have is Lonesome, which comes from Gambit Prime/Reckoning. The rare weapons are static rolls, so I don't count them as updated weapons.
- SUROS hand cannons. I'm quite surprised that there haven't been any new ones lately. The only one that you can currently obtain is from Sloane.
- Worldline-Zero Adaptive frame legendary swords. There are 2 of these from Year 1, but BOTH are no longer obtainable. They're legendary Adaptive frame swords that have the swing speed and impact of Worldline-Zero. One of them was an event sword.
---------- LIMITED AS PINNACLE/RITUAL WEAPONS & HONORABLE MENTIONS ----------
- Weapon types in the game that were updated but limited as static rolls are VEIST SMGs, Omolon scout rifles, Omolon grenade launchers and SUROS MGs (not counting an event machine gun).
- Honorable mentions are Omolon hand cannons (Jack Queen King 3 appears to have been updated but is not currently obtainable) and some Daito weapon types.
