Seriously - how many people would buy "this" game? BUNGIE , this is a "golden" opportunity!
The complete prelude story that starts us (human character) off as a young soldier in the "Earth Army" (someone can come up with a better name than that). The Nations are embarking on the Golden Age, and our space exploration capabilities have reached their pinnacle. We're selected as a top performing, high-ranking soldier to accompany scientists and scholars as we journey out into space. Our crew explores the farthest reaches of the known universe (in short "origin story" style/exploratory missions/flashes with brief explanations). We see Venus, Mars, Saturn for the first time.
Simultaneously across the universe, battling races, the Traveler, and the Darkness are waging war. During our exploration, the traveler senses us, connects with us, chooses us. It is drawn to something special and unique about the lifeforms it sees naively floating around.
Commander Zavala sees that things are not quite right, and our mission is in danger. We are in danger. We have to turn back, and something is following us. We've visited strange planets, and we didn't know we were coming back with company.
The conflict begins.
The Fallen/Vex/Hive//Cabal (pick one) are trying to capture the Traveler for it's power as an ancient celestial being, wanting to harness it for their own (perhaps could be the Origin of Ghaul or the Darkness pyramids, as well).
Our conventional weapons and defensive systems fight off the hoards, in vain, for they can only do so much. In our darkest hour, we're being overrun by the enemy who is trying to exterminate us before the Traveler has a chance to "chose us".
Our cities have crumbled, our nations are falling, and we feel the cold spear/sword of the enemy go cleanly through our chest.
And just as our eyes close, and human extinction is all but certain ..... light flashes.
We open our eyes, for the first time. We rise, but as something else..... the legend begins.

Hey, we can wish, right? I think this game is worth making. Just my thoughts and ramblings.
Please upvote if you think this would be a great idea, to actually live and play the lore instead of just reading it.

Most prequels are not very interesting stories.
