There is this older mission 1AU where the sun burns you and you have to hide in the shade, that would be good for implementing in a strike. A meteor shower would be challenging also. Options for using the environment against enemies like rocks which you can shoot down in caves that are on the ceiling. Stuff like that I would love.

Not a bad idea. Although having destructible terrain is major under taking. Add in that there is there is a bunch of “never use as cover” barrels out there to blow up. I do agree that Almighty mission section fighting in the shade bit was fun though. Hard to find an instance where one might recreate that type of instance. Mercury being the closest, but apparently stable. Going with that mind set though. What about other elemental/environmental effects such as weather. Fog for limited visibility. Levels of rain affecting traction. Chaotic thunderstorms with random lightning strikes. That type of thing. Rolling weather changes could bring a randomness factor in.
