The birds moved forward into a new area. It appeared to be an old boiler room, held together only by concrete supports. Littered around the supports, laid the bones of even more old scientists. Everywhere they looked, the ground was covered with death. The air a thick musk, smelling like [Whoever keeps trying to -blam!- up my potato and wheat garden in the Minecraft realm. Seriously, STOP]. A wretched smell if ever there was any more of it.
Nighthawk shone his light above another doorway, where a broken side laid. “This reads, ‘Treasure room’? Okay, this is getting weirder and weirder.”
Eagle pushed the door open, “Weird, but hot damn!”
Inside, the entire room was lit up in a golden glow. Gold, jewels, and more laid at the base of supports, covering the walls, even making giant piles taller than both of the cousins combined. A Statue of a giant rabbit laid in front of them, almost hitting the ceiling. At its base, a door frame, matching the one they had seen on the computer, laid. Eagle ignored it, moving toward a golden chalice that laid in front of him on the floor.
Before he could pick it up, Nighthawk slapped his wrist. “OW!” Eagle yelped. “Why’d you do that?”
“You don’t know if that gold is cursed! I just saved your life Eagle.” Nighthawk replied.
Eagle pulled back his hand to massage it. “Jerk.”
“Come on, just give me a beacon,” Nighthawk asked.
“Huh?”
“You know, the teleported beacons?” Nighthawk stated. “The ones that you made thanks to those replica Ender Pearls from the mansion?”
“Oh yeah! Forgot I had them.” Eagle rummaged through his bag and handed a small little clamp looking object to Nighthawk. Nighthawk pressed a button, then clamped it to the doorway’s frame. The clamp suctioned itself to the door, then began to start glowing at the top. Nighthawk walked back toward Eagle, pressing a few buttons on his phone.
“Alright, once we’re back outside, we’ll teleport the doorway to us and hook it up to the truck and drag it home,” Nighthawk spoke.
“Why not put the orb in the door frame right now?” Eagle asked.
Nighthawk rolled his eyes. “Because we do not have the time nor the resources to do so. If something nasty comes through that door, I’d rather have sentry guns trained on it.”
“Oh. Right.” Eagle crossed his arms. “I guess that makes sense. Well, grab onto me and I’ll just teleport us out there myself. I got the energy in my teleported for-“
“Wait.” Nighthawk held up his hand. “Do you hear that?”
“Hear wha-“
“OI!”
Nighthawk and Eagle spun around toward the statue and the doorway, brandishing their weapons in ready defiance. A shadowy figure moved from behind the doorway. Whomever it was, they were massive and stunk like hell.
“Who are you?!” Nighthawk demanded.
The shadowy figure walked further into the golden light made by the treasure. With a massive boom of his feet, he approached them. He wore strange orange armor, covered in greenish-purple stripes. But his head where a helmet should’ve been was exposed. “Sorry, my friends!” Tiger spoke, “This corner of the room is really dark for some odd reason! I like to use it for the dramatic entrances when-“ With a cracking go bone, Tiger’s jaw unhinged in a near second, revealing rows of serrated teeth. His eyes bulged out of his skull, and his whole demeanor changed, “-*CRACK* SOMEONE TRIES TO GRAB MY FLASHY GOBS!”
Nighthawk lowered his blades in disbelief. “It…It can’t be!”
Tiger crossed his arms. “Do you recognize me, bird?”
Eagle lowered his sidearm, and leaned toward Nighthawk, whispering, “Is that who I think it is?”
“How long has it been Nighthawk? You know, since the whole murder thing? *CRACK* THHAT WAS ZERTAINLY A THOING YA DID ROIGHT?!” Tiger yelled.
“Why is he talking like that?” Eagle asked.
“But…BUT YOU DIED!” Nighthawk yelped. “HOW ARE YOU ALIVE?!”
“Why am I alive? Well, why would I want to be dead, bird?” Tiger responded. “Besides, I tried being dead. *CRACK* SPEAKEASY WAS A ROIGHT ASSHOLE HE WAS! Not to mention, it was very unpleasant! It was almost as bad as the ghost of Lord Graviton? Do you see his little ghost face?”
“No-“ nighthawk tried to speak.
“A Void Ghost!”
“NO-“
“A Vhost!!!” Tiger mused.
“NO. How are you alive and here?! That’s impossible! It makes no GODDAMN SENSE!!” Nighthawk yelled, his feathers all pluming out in furious rage. “YOU DIED! I SAW IT HAPPEN! There is no way you can be alive!” To his surprise, Tiger simply laughed it off.
“Oooohoooohooo! You see, My body was reborn in these here tubes. *CRACK* AND DA VOIDY SHEIT!” Tiger crazily stated. “I do not remember when my mind sprang back into my body. So, I decided to be Shrek and hoard all the gold I could get! I sat here in this corner for a while, maybe months at least!”
Nighthawk’s eyes twitched uncontrollably. Eagle tried to defuse the situation. “So…what did you do in that corner for all this time?”
Tiger’s eyes lit up. “OH! I sat here and played Fortnite! I had always thought the game was dumb, and I was right! So I decided it was a substitute for Minecraft”
Nighthawk and Eagle suddenly lost it. Both of them dropped their weapons, their feathers plumed in anger and began yelling.
“THAT-“ Eagle began.
“-IS-“ Nighthawk continued.
“-JUST-“
“-F UCKING-“
“-STUPID!!!!!!” They both yelled together. The force of their yell shook Tiger, confusing him for a moment. He frowned and began growling. Unbeknownst to them, the shadowy purple figure shimmered behind the doorway, waiting for the sweet release of life.
