“For someone who dismantles magic with such ease, you sure use it a lot.”
Evelyn had been replacing the wards and defenses surrounding Poly’s door for hours, inscribing them with minute attention to detail. Every symbol was at maximum power, and the energies even began to slow her down, their purpose to imprison not discriminating between captor and captive.
“Perhaps you could dismantle a few, lighten up a bit.”
“Not a chance. I’d rather fight at less than optimal levels to keep you in.”
“But the restrictions, this burden, this weight… we can lift it. ‘For Our yoke is easy and my burden is light.’”
“Don’t. You. Dare.”
Evelyn hastily cast more and more runes, speeding up time to increase efficiency. The web of magic that she ended up with was a mess of elements and Light and Deep.
Polycephalon laughed at her failure.
“The chaos of the magic is so delectable, my dear. Please continue.”
Her eyes flashed blue, then returned to green. Reluctantly, Evelyn dispelled the mess as if it was nothing.
“Of course Chaos would fit you like a glove. Too bad you speak before you think.”
The laughter faded from the door, and angry muttering whispered out. More precise and ordered runes in proper elemental circuits arose, making traps and other defenses.
“Why the sudden need for security against other visitors, child?”
“I can’t trust myself to always be here. The runes will make sure that nothing burns down in the meantime.”
“Did you just plan for your demise?”
“No. It’s the kid. Grandma is babysitting him right now, and I need to pick him up. Toodles.”
A flash of green lightning, and the Eater of Hope who found her own, vanished.

All the while, eyes of powerful beings watched. They stared and stared, thinking that their mere observation of power would fulfill their hunger for it.
