Below are a few gameplay ideas I had that would help with destiny's repetitive/grind system.
[spoiler]This is in no way hate, these are just things I (and others) would like to see done to some elements of the game. None of these are addressing bugs or overpowered weapons, because there's already enough of that on the forums, and i would like to avoid toxicity. [/spoiler]
Vex offensive
For the first to sections, have different map possibilities that would rotate at random (maybe 3 possible for each) Each map would have its own type of vex (Precursor, descendant, or the mossy black garden variety). Add at least 4 new vex offensive weapons, and have Ikora's stock rotate the now 8 weapons out weekly. (all 8 can drop from encounters)
Add two new final bosses with different mechanics. One would resemble a hobgoblin, and would require you to lead a tether to two boxes to down his shield (similar to the raid.) the other would be a large harpie that spawns orbs around the map that must be unlocked (by killing enemies) and then thrown at the boss to drop his shield
(Instead of walking to the next area, you would take a warp gate)
Strikes
Add matchmaking filters that would allow you to pick your favourite strikes and least favourite so you would have a higher chance of getting the strikes you want more often. (Wouldn’t guarantee those strikes, just more often. If in a fireteam, it would go off the leaders preferences) Stop focusing on eververse items and add new strike every week or two, or change previous strikes around weekly (new boss, different enemies, etc.). Make the ordeal have 3 strikes you can choose from like classic nightfall. And for the master ordeal, have the boss be slightly different, just like the normal one but nightmare’d (or if its a vex boss, have it emanate those blue tentacles the raid final boss has) Make the old nightfall drop pinnacle gear for 100k, but make it much more difficult than it currently is. (like master ordeal but w/o champions and you use the thing from xur to change modifiers).
Patrol
Add a new mode called exploration, which allows you to go and check out a new area every week or so that has no map data and a lot of secrets (emblems, shaders, and specific legendary weapons/armor.) There would be only one or two each week, on random planets, and once the reset happens it is no longer accessible, making the gear have more personal value (but bring them back at some point so people who didn’t get the gear before can try for it.)
Bring venus back (personal want)
Add hard patrols that would give more planetary resources as well as glimmer for completion. Here are a few suggestions:
-Weapon calibration: Use a certain weapon and get kills (would be narrated by banshee).
-Champion hunt: go hunt down a powerful champion of some kind (random each time.)
-race: Make it around the map (or a specific area) and back to the starting point before time runs out.
-mix bag: a multi-step patrol that has you either scan an area and then kill enemies or vice versa, and then find coordinates to a chest that would contain your reward.
(and add more fun sparrow jumps to every patrol area, as well as straights and places to do flips.)
Flashpoint:
Whenever a planet has a flashpoint, add more difficult bounties to the location vender that reward a larger amount of location materials, as well as one multi-step bounty that drops tier one power gear. Have vex invade whatever planet it is (not like on the moon where its an event, just have large groups of vex appear in different areas with at least one major.) Replace all the patrols with the aforementioned hard patrols.
Sparrows
Give ALL exotic sparrows the ability to roll, and some legendary ones. Buff the speed of all sparrows so that there actually fun to ride. Allow players to start impromptu races on any location that reward glimmer and location materials (players in a fireteam would have to activate a patrol like beacon that would teleport them to a starting line somewhere on the map. You wouldn’t be able to do it with randoms, but along with the buff to speed on the sparrows, races would be occurring more.) Allow better customization for sparrows as well. This would be custom trails (the glowy bit coming out the back) and horns. These would be earned randomly in activities.(that's how I would like it, but if bungie does adapt this it would most likely be made into a microtransaction.)
Misc stuff
Change the violently white initial loading screen to either a different color, or add a tab that allows you to look at your collection well you load in. (only the inital loading screen, i'm aware you can see that stuff when loading into any other location.)
Change ghost projections so they always appear.
Add more customization to ships, including decals and different bobbles.
