A List of My Gripes With Shadowkeep Currently (take it as you will)
Okay, Shadowkeep's been out for a while and while it has some good things going for it, there's a lot of unchanged things that need something or some changes (not many) need to be reverted. A lot of these things are pretty common topics, but some of them are personal opinions. For the sake of keeping this post as small as possible, I will explain each item listed here as short and simple as I can (if possible).
- Scavenger perks in Crucible. Really tired of players solely crutching on those meta special weapons in the Crucible. And when a player has a bad connection doing that, that gets really unbearable. I really don't think Scavenger perks should work in the Crucible unless something about the special ammo system changes sometime. Those players might actually care about their primaries if this is addressed.
- Black Armory Forges turned into a rotating playlist. I used to grind these for weapon drops, usually in the Volundr Forge. Now I don't because when I get the chance to try now, I only have one Forge as an option and if it's Bergusia or Izanami, well all of the new players who never played Black Armory are in that particular rotating matchmaking playlist that's easy to access and... well, they're usually not good at it and I get no loot because of those failed runs. I hear this one is being addressed.
- Handheld Supernova is inconsistent, sometimes blowing up as soon as you throw it. This usually happens if you have a lot of forward momentum or you are moving in a certain direction. You don't even have to be shot at for this to happen. I know no one likes getting hit by it, but when you're using it and it just wastes itself out of existence, well, you're dead usually. This one isn't that big of a deal.
- Error codes in the Tower. This is pretty common. Happens to a lot of people, especially those who get Lettuce and Cabbage errors. Recent server maintenances reduced these two particular errors' occurrences, but they're still pretty frequent in the Tower. I'd like a firewalled option for the Tower since being in public spaces with other players is usually the cause of some of these errors.
- Matchmaking is pretty bad and inconsistent, especially in Iron Banner. Enough said.
- Spawning has somehow gotten worse in the Crucible. Nothing like spawning literally on the enemy team in Midtown. That was a first for me. I don't think removing maps from the playlists has fixed any issues at all. The spawning mechanic itself probably needs some work.
*- Core activities need a weapon refresh. This one is a hot topic and I agree with it. Weapons have been heavily neglected this year. Usually with annual DLCs, we get a massive refresh with all of the vendor and activity loot. This year, we only got an armor refresh. Because of this, gameplay hasn't changed much when weapons are a major part of the game. When you lock all of the new weapons to new activities, those activities eventually dry out and get boring. Strikes, Crucible and Iron Banner are already going through this. Lots of players feel they are wasting their time in those activities because they don't have much to offer. I think this is something that needs addressed badly. I get that the story content is important, but I think if I really needed some story to dig through, I'd just read a book. I also hope there is a good reason to continue grinding out Nightmare Hunts and Vex Offensive on higher difficulties when they are available. Nightmare Hunts are already starting to get boring and Vex Offensive only has 4 new weapons right now.
- Speaking of Vex Offensive, Subjunctive is based off of the Sol Pariah 6 SMG, which appears to be an Omolon SMG with a Vex theme. Despite that fact, while Sol Pariah 6 has Phase Magazine as a magazine perk, Subjunctive cannot roll with it. I find that disappointing.
I still love the game, but those core activities need some love, Bungie.
