The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is overrated. Usually I’m all for those kind of open world games, but the game’s world feels [i]too[/i] open to me.
Everything feels so far away from each other, separated by mostly emptiness. There isn’t very much to so besides just wander around, moving generally in the direction of the main objective, doing little things like solving shrines and killing enemies. It doesn’t really feel like there’s that much content; just mindless filler to occupy the otherwise empty world.
And about those main objectives, they seem hella vague to me. Like, I just finished freeing Divine Beast Vah Ruta and I’m like “Ok what now?”. It just says “Free the Divine Beasts”. How? Which do I go for? What do I do? Where do I need to go? How do I get there? How should I prepare? 4 waypoints in 4 completely unmarked spots on the map barely does anything to answer those questions.
I ended up going towards the one in the volcano area and getting stuck on a Sheika tower because going down towards the waypoint on the map drains my health due to intense heat. I have nothing to counteract it nor do I know how to get anything that does. I would like the game to be a tad bit more linear with more sub objectives and whatnot. It’s just too broad and vague and it makes it unenjoyable because I’m forced to look up what the hell I’m supposed to to and how to do it. It’s annoying.
So yeah. Despite all the praise its gotten I personally don’t see what’s so good about it. There’s no structure to it at all and I would very much appreciate it if there was.
