Lore from the OTHER SIDE Exotic Sparrow
"Do you know what the player on the other side meant? It was an idea that people talked about long ago, before the Golden Age. And the idea was that each of us has a player on the other side—a perfect enemy, just as powerful, just as smart, just as experienced. And that perfect enemy was waiting for each of us, waiting patiently, because the day of meeting would come in time. The other-side enemy didn't have to rush it. Sheer time and chance would bring you together.
Think of that. Right now, someone out there is waiting for you, and they know you so well they practically are you. That's the player on the other side."
I feel like this is a direct allusion to what we're seeing in game right now (especially at the end of shadowkeep) as well as what has been intended for the story since the very beginning. Not a fight with the darkness itself, but a war with versions of ourselves that use it as a Weapon in the same way we do the Light. A proper Dichotomy.
I believe our Pyramid Invaders are simply us on the "Other Side".
"Destiny" is simply the outcome of who will win between us and a darker version of ourselves, THE Destiny of the human race decided.
Also... Invasions, Pyramids... sounds like an Interdimensional Gambit match.

That’s pretty crazy. Are we like our own greatest enemy, then? Lol.

And now they have an excuse to NOT bring a new species, because they can just bring some cheap doppelgänger. Bungie is a recycling utility. Remove Everworse.

If we are fighting humanity, are we truly the guardians of humanity?

Exactly!
