Remember when people taught you the raid?

I wish the raid community was like in Destiny 1. I can't stand these raid posts, " KWTD have mountaintop and recluse, have every exotic, run this subclass, do a finisher on everything, have every single weapon in the game, use them all at once, wear every armor set at the same time and have all stats 100 on each piece" I just want to do raids ! • Bungie is to blame for the influx of KWTD posts. The raid design team has laid a major egg throughout D2. The raids and raid lairs are far too mechanic-centric and as a result you better KWTD otherwise the whole team will fail. Fun raids don't exist in D2.

  • Now here's one side of the argument though from those of us who still are and trying to teach raids. I've had this echoed by enough players Ive run into that I feel I confidently use it as a counterargument We try to teach ok? But you know what many of us get when we try? Horrible attitudes, not paying attention, lazy, and most importantly uncourteous Guardians. I've tried teaching a total of 9 people how to do raids on D2 over the course of each raid. And you know what? Im done. They resist and resist to learning anything and everything. They leave mid encounter without saying anything, and one of the times we've gotten someone through there was no thank you or anything. Got his loot, left the game, left the party. So here's my message to everyone out there who behaves this way. Until you guys get your -blam!- together don't expect a good deal of us out there to teach you. Either come in willing to listen and learn or don't bother. We're not going to waste our time. Now regarding the other side though please, do be courteous in return. I've also heard and seen enough instances of people being assholes and scaring people off. Be patient unless things get as bad as what I mentioned above. That is all

    • They need to get rid of the revive token. It leaves no room for improvising. And it’s a stupid mechanic. If someone with an important buff dies it’s just straight up wipe.

      • Whether you watched a guide or not, the way you learn a raid is practice and playing. I've explained SotP for a lot of people so far and it's always the same: Once they played an encounter a couple of times, they'll start to get better and better until the damage they deal is enough or they are fast enough. If they don't have the weapons you would normally use: Fine, we'll make it work! The great thing about raids is it's not important if "the new guy" doesn't carry his own weight, if his teammates are good enough, they can keep an eye open for him. If that still doesn't work, you can be sure "the new guy" will get better. Raids are not activities you need to complete on your first try and the strategiess the streamers use are not necessarily the best. I've played GoS three times so far and we never managed to finish the boss, but that's ok, we'll try to do it next time. It's meant to be hard, so there'll always be people that lack patience, but why does that affect you? Open up your own fireteam, search for likeminded people, make your own strategies.

        • back in the day of d1 i used to teach people the raids and after every run i made them promise me that they would never turn down a player who has not done the raid. but at d2 raids i cant be asked to explain 40 minutes mechanics for one section. it used to be that raids were simple but the execution was hard. now its much more complicated to comprehend and execution even harder without being able to revive players since the lack of hard mode. the revive token/timer is the main problem with the "elitist" problem. for example i ran kings fall waaaaaaayyyy under leveled. like it took me 2 sniper headshots to kill a thrall. but i could still hold my plate, and we were able to beat it. granted i would die right after plates cuz snipers would always one bang me lol. couldnt help but laugh during the raid. even my teamates were laughing. watching a single player struggle against a thrall is very funny. point is. even though i would die after every damage phase we were still able to beat it. everybody knew there roles and execution was not forgiving. dying while holding the plates open for your runner was #1 priority. once the mechanic was complete dying was ok. it was ok to mess up and die to a thrall but not by messing up the mechanics.

          • VERY TRUE. This elitist player base is entrenched and the sense of community is not universal any more, more like every guardian for himself. You rarely even see a sherpa post any more. D1 will NEVER be topped with quality or community. After taken King and then rise of iron , there was a sense for the majority of players to help one another out and the game was in the best place it was and probably ever will be.

            • This still happens regularly in D2, you just need to know where to look. reddit.com/r/destinysherpa I got through every D2 raid and they were all incredible experiences. Keep an eye out for a post with a timeframe that works for you and sign up.

              • I will be honest, you have 2h raid experience. Either who havent tried hard enough or I dont know what to say. You cant pretend to go into LFG and join a group of people who have dozen if not hundred or hours in the raid. Also, dont expect people to teach you a raid when you havent put the time to learn it yourself. I am not saying that there arent any players out there who would mind teaching you a raid entirely but for the most part, you want to know at least the mechanics and have an idea on how the encounters work. This was the same in D1 btw, nothing new here. Make your own group and get someone to help you. I see plenty of them on LFG, obviously not as many as the KWTD ones, which btw, 90% of the people asking you KWTD dont know what to do themselves.

              • Well, why dont you know what to do? Every destiny yt has made a guide on the raid you cant expect to jump into a raid blind with 5 strangers and say "You have to tell me everything and show me how to do it bc we play the same game." you can -blam!- off with that right now. Also at this point the recluse and mtop quests are so piss easy you should have them and I dont see any posts in my lfg discord asking you have those weapons. I think myself and many others only dont care what weapons you got as long as your doing your role in a timely manner.

              • The raid community isn't friendly after a raid has been out for more than 48 hrs. Its sickening. In D1, I used to sherpa the oryx raid and the vast majority of my sherpees were kids and older men, usually retired veterans. I would like to sherpa d2 raids if I could find a patient group who let's me study it enough to sherpa it those who havent done it.

Btw That post comes from a person who has invested 2h to get a Last Wish clear ^^ No other raids tried since then ... People with 100+ raid clears invested time to explain things to you and you never ever raided again ... THATS the reason ^^ A classic case of "Nobody wants to carry me" if he is too lazy to even try anthing

                • There are some people that still teach, and even if they won't they'll probably accept you if you watched a video on how to do it. You just need to find a reasonable team. Isn't that hard if you know the right places to look.

                • I think its more the fact that the casual raid scene is dead. Raids now feel like something out of WoW where you can't have fun or make mistakes without hours of effort being lost. That or the mechanic hell that bingo bungo have a hard on for. Seriously do we need 7 bloody different mechanics for the last boss when most players that aren't super raid competitive or streamers have already had enough stress from at most a 2 hour run if they are first time runner? What happened with raids like VoG, Crota, Wrath of the machine, hell even the Calus fight was simple, but challanging. I mean there is a reason people cheesed Riven, because they wanted a fun badass boss fight not another complex puzzle. :/ Now they aren't super bad when you do learn them, but then it kills the drive of any new players have to bother since it seems like so much is being thrown at you all at once. So it kills the raid community in the long run because its become more hardcore, meaning that there is a significantly massive decrease in the raid population due to no new players trying them. Heck maybe bring back the old Easy mode Hard mode system. Then all they have to do is just reskin the hard mode weapons and add a intrinsic or unique perk to them like the bane perks from the old days that or the raid they are from they do more damage in. Kinda like the Leviathan armor benefits. All in all, I think the lack of definable loot, current views and learning curves, and as well as mechanic inflation tend to kill fun casual runs until experienced players pull unsure friends or randoms into the raid and take a few hours to teach them.... Which rarely happens. We are back to the D1 days of "No Ghally get kicked" mentality.

It's because the raids used to be fun. Now they have terrible mechanics that cause more frustration than joy. People want them over with as quickly as possible because they aren't enjoying the ride. That's why there is no desire for most people to help others. Try finding a clan that raids. You will have a much better chance at finding some decent people than you ever would using the lfg.

                • You mean the litteral last 4 raids I have done in GoS where I sherpa'd at least 3 people? Yeah, people still do it. GoS just has a final boss that can take a few hours teaching people, which is likely why some don't want to Sherpa it yet.

                • I found both D1 and D2's raids real fun to play. Still, I have to say I'm getting bummed out about the insanely far fetched mechanics that make no sense. Haven't tried Garden raid yet, because I can't be bothered really. Bottom line, it's cool to have mechanics in raids, just release a raid that doesn't have tedious mechanics every once in a while.
