In early 2019, towards the beginning of Season of Opulence, I was banned from Destiny 2. In an attempt to create a script that could track the drop rates of different ammo bricks from different enemies, I used a program to scan the game to find which hex values stored the ammo reserves for all 3 weapons on the player. Active scans of the game are punishable according to Bungie’s EULA, but static scans are not. My program supposedly had an option to freeze the game while it was scanning, but when I attempted to use that feature, it froze the game on my screen, but apparently did not actually stop the game. I then attempted to log on later and discovered I was banned permanently. I had no previous history of cheating or abusing glitches. I had played since day 1 on PC. I participated in the beta. I preordered the digital deluxe of both the base game and the Forsaken expansion. I loved this game and had no intention of causing any harm with my actions. Bungie banned me anyways. One mistake lead to them revoking my ability to play a game I had spent more than $200 and 1000 hours on. There was no support, no way to appeal, no way to even know why I was banned until I went to the Better Business Bureau to file a report for the seemingly unethical revocation of my access to the game. This is the equivalent of having your license and your car taken away from you permanently and having to go to the DMV, just to find out it was because of a speeding ticket. This practice is in ways understandable from their perspective. They need to protect the game environment. That is their responsibility. I am not mad at Bungie. I am proud of them for escaping Activision’s grasp and making it on their own. I have high, high hopes for them and for Destiny as a franchise. My love for Bungie and Destiny persists. However, I would like to ask that they reconsider their banning practice. I regret my decisions, no matter what my original intent was. I apologize for what I did. Yet they offer no second chance. You cannot even reach out to a human to appeal. Bungie has no direct support line that you can contact. They have a support forums, but if your post is about being banned, the staff that patrol the forum will ignore you and many players will choose to insult you for what you did. There is no forgiveness, no way to appeal, no due process, no second chances. I invested so much into this game, and had it all taken away from me in an instant because of one stupid mistake. We’re all human. We all make mistakes. We regret our actions. We grow as people. If there was no forgiveness or second chances in our world, it would be a very grim place to live. If you are a Bungie employee or someone who has communications with Bungie, please take my story and what I have said into consideration. If you are a player reading this, please refrain from leaving negative comments unless they are true constructive criticism. I know what I did and I don’t need you to call me a cheater. I’m not asking to be unbanned, I’m asking Bungie to reconsider their banning practices. -Sincerely, A Guardian Without His Ghost
