Bungie, please remove the restrictions on Armor and Mod combinations

It's annoying that we have to have specific elements (Void, Arc, Solar) for certain mods. Some Exotics have no place in certain builds now because of it. Armor 2.0 was supposed to enable us to have more customization options but with the combo restrictions and the insane cost of materials (and especially glimmer) needed, creating a build just isn't fun. It's a chore. Funnily enough, with the increased number of options and the ability to make very specific builds ( or at least attempt to), I've put less time into builds now than I ever have. Some of the restrictions seem like they exist just for the sake of having restrictions.

  • Made a post about this too giving a couple suggestions as a fix. Either to make all mods usable on their gear slot once collected or make 3 element versions of all mods so you need to collect that elements version.

  • Exotics can roll any element when obtained as World Drops so what do you mean they have no place?

Look at my problem! First off, I use Gambit Prime Armor only, that means I need 4 sets of Armor to start with. I also have to have all 4 sets with all 3 affinities! Now if I want to masterwork all of it, it costs 750 enhancement cores per set! 750 cores x all 4 sets x 3 affinities = thats 9000 enhancement cores! See any problems? I had 400 enhancement cores before Shadowkeep. Now I have nothing but 2 master-worked pieces of armor.

    • I would like to see an organized web page or graph or something to explain how to actually build now. Because it’s bad enough not even knowing what mods I have for everything for each energy type. It already seems more restrictive than before I feel.

So much this. Is amazing how bungie manages to self-sabotage themselves. Every time they do something good genuinely or something the community has asked for they have to throw in some bizarre/spiteful twist that completely nullifies the act. It's like trying to get 3 wishes out of the genie who is just going to twist your words so you spend 2 wishes trying to undo the unintended consequences of the first.

      • Strongly agree. Managing three set of armor in a game that has horrific organizational options is super frustrating and overwhelming.

So far I agree. Armor 1.0 dare I say it was better and is still better. I don't have a energy 10 set so may change my mind then but right now leveling, my 2.0 armour is worse. I also do not even have the old mods I like like fusion rifle scavenger. What about the artfact too. You unlock things on it then you have to equip it to specific armour. To do that you have to give up what would have been standard on 1.0 armour. I am enjoying the content and maybe with a bit of time and a bit more progression I may see the point of it all but right now it feels very restrictive and that was not what armour 2.0 was advertised to be. Also I've noticed blue armour drops more consistently with 5 energy than purples. Aren't purples meant to be better all round than blues.

      • This was probably done to satisfy the people who complained about stackable super mods.

I agree that the elemental affinity is annoying and needs to have a rework, but I can see why they put the restrictions in place If you had Gear 2.0 without restrictions, you could find a set you like the look of, set the mods for your "God Build" and just infuse other armor to level it up as you need. While that seems like it's be ideal, it'd also be simple and wouldn't keep you considering your build and tweaking/changing it to fit the current fight. Much like we used to do - get your armor, fit a mod and forget it. Gear 2.0 is supposed to keep us as focused on building strong armor sets as we are on god-roll weapons. The elemental affinity is there to make sure we can't just swap out mods and be done - we have to grind for 3 different bits of armor for each element OR have a mixed up build with different elements on different pieces.

        • Armor 2.0 and the artifact are insanely restrictive, both are good ideas but implemented so poorly. I knew it was bad when I saw only eververse armor pieces would be available to reskin our reskinned armor 😂

        • Welcome to what Division 2 Players have been dealing with! Minute I saw this system I already knew all the problems that were going to crop up with it. Hopefully it takes Bungie less time to address it than Massive did.

          • They gotta pad the grind some how. Maybe they’ll sell an armor pass for 10 bucks soon that’ll let you make mods universal.

I'm to the point now, I just infuse old armour with Armour 2.0 to bring the light up and said screw it. Especially Exotics armour. And I have been matching armour with armour type to keep the material costs down. Same with weapons.

          • Can't even use Recuperation (Solar) with Hands On (Arc) on class items. Elemental affinity system is complete garbage because it pigeon holes you into using specific perks that are only available to one type without having access to the other. Despite the previous Armor 1.0 allowing it. Also, Shaders and Transmat Effects need to work just like Ornaments/Ghost Projections. And not be tied to the inventory anymore. But, it's Bungie and everything they must do HAS to be backwards and unintuitive.

          • 100% yes. Elements on armour serve zero purpose especially with exotics that have a fixed element. Many exotics that you could freely use will now no longer be viable compared to others simply because you can't slot a mod on it.

I agree that the mods locked to certain elements is extremely bad. It adds way too much rng to the grind. You have to grind for the stats you want and grind and grind and grind and hope that when you get a good armor piece it has the right element for the mods you want to use. If they don’t want to get rid of the mod attunement to specific elements they should at the very least allow you to change an item’s element at a cost somehow so you can continue to customize instead of being locked into the bland, boring, and unforgiving rng that is armor 2.0 as it stands. The guy who said exotic armor should have all the elements has a good idea, I think the exotics should definitely have that. That alone, however, doesn’t solve the problem and I stand by the fact this elemental system needs some refining. There is just absolutely nothing fun about getting an armor piece with stats you want and having to dismantle it because the element is wrong for what you want.

I swear to you in all of the honesty that there ever was; I have no idea why you people are complaining about this Cores drop from everything. Bounties for cores are erm, bountiful.. Leveling crucible gives cores. If you git gud at the game youll do 3 NFs per week that give you prisms, yellow golf balls, and cores. You can buy prisms and golf balls from Banshee. There are also 100 ranks to max out your season and that gives you all that crap. there is also ZERO REASON to ever need to MW anything unless you like min/maxing in which case you should be familiar with grinding. This hate train is just that, and it's fake as hell. If you see me around here you should know that I rag on BNG for things that are stupid. This is not one of them. Youre making this mole hill a mountain. Just play the game, go after what's important to you, and have fun with it. Make a post about how you did just that. I realize you have to vent your frustrations in life, but that's what IRL friends are for. * this maybe went in the wrong place. Nonetheless,,

                • They could do that, or maybe have a copy of each mod for each element. I'd rather remove the restrictions because i'm not doing too good on mod collection right now and would rather less be in the loot pool.

Yes, this needs to happen. Having resistance to a certain damage type in PvE is great. Being restricted in mods attributed to that element is not. Edit: Somone corrected me. There's no longer a PvE resistance to any element. Pardon me.
