I'll start with the good.
Crucible:
- The Control playlist is the best Destiny PvP since D1. There are still some lopsided games when a bunch of brand new players join a lobby, but I've played all day and haven't seen a single instance of 1-2 players just destroying everyone else.
- having a set mode allows players to get into a groove that wasn't possible when the game mode switched ever match or so.
- The player vs player engagements have been incredible.
- Heavy weapons no longer dictate play
- Supers can be attacked with a good chance to defeat them. Have shut down multiple roaming Titans today.
- Twilight Gap and Widow's Court are incredible. The best decision Bungie made with them is to bring them over unchanged vs the reimagined versions of previous D1 maps. It feels like I'm actually playing D1 again but with a D2 sandbox and it's so freaking nice.
- Fragments. This new map is awesome. Feels like a better version of D1's Floating Gardens.
- Primary play is back. Don't know how many games I've played today, but I've barely died to special weapons. A few snipes, shotguns and fusions and I've seen Jotunn twice and died to it once.
- solo play is light-years better. I've played solo all day and won way more than I've lost. Currently on a win streak well past 5 games.
- blue and purple drops have consistently raised in power so far. I don't know if this will cap out at some point, but being able to just play Crucible all day and continue leveling has been a huge improvement over last year where we had to constantly move to new activities and couldn't just play what we enjoyed.
Pve:
Having D1's First Light as part of the moon patrol zone is really cool. I wish all PvP maps were explorable patrol spaces.
And that's about as far as I got in PvE because...
We get to the bad.
- Infusion. Going into Shadowkeep I thought from the original ViDoc that Luke and Mark had said they want us to be able to play and look how we want and craft these ultimate armor sets. So I was incredibly surprised to see an infusion system that actually is more punishing than D2 Y2.
Granted it's offset to a degree by the constant flow of upgrade drops, but that's in PvP where it doesn't matter if I keep on my gear I love and stay 750. I've already seen posts from friends playing the campaign of their Guardians looking like clowns because they need to just use whatever is highest power and I don't get how the decision makers don't understand how much players hate this and how much we love using things we love.
I feel bad for the players who did all that grinding for the day one mod 2.0 armor sets... That cost them all their martials to get... Only to have to ditch them for whatever blue gear drops.
-Old D2 PvP maps. The addition of Fragments, Twilight and Widow's further highlights the deficiencies in the rest of the maps. It's nice some were removed, but there are still some really awful ones in the rotation.
So that's some initial day one thoughts. Definitely have had the most fun I've had in the game since before Season of the Drifter, but I have absolutely ZERO desire to play PvE with the current infusion/investment system. I have no issue with grinding to level my gear, but let me where it while I do and not look like a clown.
Thank you.

I just don't understand why infusion doesn't cost simple Glimmer. If I have a piece of gear that I like that is 805 and then I get a blue that's 806 I would like to infuse that blue into my gear I like. But rn, there is no way in hell I'm going to fork out that many materials to infuse it 1 Light. Bungie's philosophy on Infusion has grown more backwards as the years go on. Infusion shouldn't be a grind, obtaining the armor and weapon fodder for increased Light as well as the armor fashion to make your Guardian look sick should be where you are putting your time.
I don't get how the decision makers don't understand how much players hate this and how much we love using things we love.
They absolutely do understand it, just as they also understood how much players hated cores as part of infusion. But in a game where they apparently can't deliver any real new content anymore they simply rely too much on their grinds, timegates, and currency sinks to inflate our play time. They simply have no other tools to keep us busy at this point, and it's sad.
-
From my Black leather looking Sentry/Warlock/Gambit duds to Saturated Blue Robes! And now I look like a Cosmonaut made love to an vodoo Priestess and their clothes got mixed up.
-
I'm going to suffer through the low level gear, I refuse to wear blues after grinding for legendaries for a year
-
Yeah, the biggest disappointment was realizing how unnecessary the Solstice was because the armor 2.0 set they drop you is meh. Luckily they won't fool me a third time!
-
I still don't understand what was wrong with keeping the infusion system from D1? There was literally no point in changing it.
-
Yeah the infusion system just sounds overly tedious imo
-
Glad i'm not alone with the feeling about pve. Yesterday i was really looking forward to playing, preloaded, installed right away at reset, logged in and started the campaign. Was able to play for around 1.5 hours before i had to swap to blue gear and forsaken world drop gear to be able to keep playing. As a hardcore player myself, i just couldn't do it again. Turned the game off. Will give it a shot later today but i'm so done wth the boring grind we've been doing every dlc looking like a dumpster, playing with blue weapons till we reach max level. Such a terrible system. Like you said, they especially talked about giving us the opportunity to look like we want and play like we want. I didn't expect forsaken world drops and an even more expensive infusion system, also limiting us on hoarding those infusion items, with this release. Yea ik crybaby and all, never happy blablabla. It's my opinion, not a general fact.

How. Do. You. Get. Mods. Can anyone answer how to get the new armor mods if the only way is random chance after getting vendor packages I’m gunna freak the -blam!- out I just turned in 6 engrams worth of token to shax after getting stomped in comp for hrs and got zero -blam!-in mods my character is in the worst state ever
-
Bungie won't ever address this. They dont address when they are caught in the wrong unless their playerbase dwindles.
-
No one should be infusing anything this early. Stop wasting resources and blaming the game.
-
Well, unless you get a blue armor piece, you can use universal ornaments to simply change he look so you don’t look like a flipping clown. That being said, all armor should be a universal ornament

Cozmo_BNG
Ok - old
Thanks for the feedback. Could you elaborate on this some more?
So I was incredibly surprised to see an infusion system that actually is more punishing than D2 Y2
What makes the changes to the infusion system feel more punishing than in Y2? -
I do agree that the infusion system is waaaaay more expensive than I personally think it should be. However, if they would have kept the old system (with enhancement cores) into armor 2.0 I think it would have been a grand slam. I see why they made it so expensive, but I don't necessarily agree with it.
-
Yeah, infusing hasn't been a problem for most of a year now, and as it currently stands it is incredibly cheap.
-
Stopped reading at heavy ammo no longer dictates crucible wins Should have expected this from you.. But I lied. I read Cozmos response. Wtf are you talking about? How is this system more punishing than the last. Git gud. Why BNG listens to you I will never understand.
-
Shadowkeep day one: complete bounties to continue
-
Lol heavy doesn't dictate play? Someone hasn't been to comp yet or had entire teams firing colony at them...
-
Wait till you go about masterworking armor. Boy are you in for a shock.
-
No its the not PvP is shit. The matchmaking is shit. The sandbox is shit. The supers are shit the pace is shit. The game is -blam!-ing shit.
-
why would you limit the masterworking of gear that much? whats the sense of this system, if i‘m not able to max. all the gear i want, without spending a massive amount of very rare materials? so i have to sit and wait to be sure if this gear set is 100% the one, i want to max or just go on without caring about it. i think i will choose the second option.
- having a set mode allows players to get into a groove that wasn't possible when the game mode switched ever match or so.
??? Forsaken playlists had very few gamemodes per playlist....qp had 2, rotationals had 1, rumble was 1, banner was 1, only comp had a bunch coming it at 4
- Heavy weapons no longer dictate play
Doesnt heavy drop for close by teammates? Pvp is laggy like I’ve never experienced
-
Another useless sols post
-
i dont like the fact i played crucibal , with only the same damn map over and over again like they deleted all old maps smh
-
The 3 new PvP maps are garbo. Who the hell put this stupid fog effect on Widows Court? Twilight Gap is literally, "everyone just camp in the back corner and Lane peak at A" And that new Infinite Forrest map is a cluster -blam!-. It's basically a Call of Duty map. There is so many places to hide and everyone just corner camps and you die from getting shot in the back too much. Also, why is OEM still in the game? The finishers are fun though :)
