A cold shore stretched out before her for miles and miles. Sharp jagged rocks lined the breakers as white foam rushed over them. She had not travelled across the cosmos for this miserable stretch of land, but what was beyond.
Metallic clanking echoed off the rocks as she walked out onto the peninsula. It was cold and very wet, but anti-rust alloy doesn’t care. She didn’t care for much anyway.
The waters began to churn as her presence was recognized. Waves bubbled over and formed a large snake like head in the tsunami that held still. Dark blue spots formed “eyes” and a barrel mouth opened.
“You have come far...far, little one. Only one has come this far before and left the same.”

The voice was deep and powerful like the waves it embodied. Surging to a height of 300 feet the elder elemental was impressive. Even shehad to recognize that.
“I do not fear the tide. I have journeyed far for something, and you have it.”
The wall of water laughed heartily at this jest.
“My heart is not an easy thing to steal little one, but you have taken it right from my grasp. What do you desire?”
She pondered for a few moments. The vocoder was fine, but the computations had paused to re-do the figures. Yes, she wanted this.
“I want to know if I can still master elements like a creature with a soul.”
The waves shook and roared. Its massive head moved closer.
“You… have a soul, yes. A construct with a.. Purpose you do not know of. A lost soul? A perilous state of affairs. And you do not have something you usually have. Don’t think I didn’t notice the gap in your heart.”
She felt with her hand at her chest. A human reaction for sure, but instinctive even for her. The jewel was safe, and she would deny her mother. It was time to find herself instead of following impulses. It was time to learn for herself.
“You wish to fill this void.”

“Yes. I do.”
“Say it. Wish it. I will make it so.”
“I wish to learn of water and find what I am.”
At once the waves rose even higher, and the serpent head struck. The gaping maw swallowed her whole. She did not waver, and spoke not a word.
The waves receded, and she was gone.
