[i][quote]To all the souls lost on, and from the after-effects of the events of September 11th, 2001, Rest in Eternity.
Eighteen years ago today; a day that would go on to reside in the Hall of Infamies, and a day that was to change the face of our nation for ages to come.
As the towers of the World Trade Center fell on that fateful day, so too was a common vision of the future lost from the skyline of our collective imaginations, as a veil of gloom quickly enveloped the country. We transfixed ourselves in horror, confusion and disbelief to our television sets—many contacting loved-ones near the scene of the disaster, scrambling to make sure they were out of harms way—as together we witnessed the shockwave of an irreversible paradigm shift that would quake into motion through the streets of New York City, and around the world.
For a doleful many, their futures had been cancelled. They would become only a collage in the essence of the memories belonging to their loved ones—film reels would collect dust in the absence of family and friends, who never again would have a chance to share treasured moments to be reminisced.
As the smoke faded, the rubble was cleared, and new monuments were erected at the site of Ground Zero, the echoes of this tragedy remain, and will remain, for many years to come. It was, as well, that the horizons of an era met their final twilight, as its passageway in the branching annals of future history was diverted forever—the hopes and dreams of a generation haunted by the plumes of ruination that were seared into the confine of their minds. Yet, the persistence of their hopes and dreams, even those of ones lost, remain eternal.
The following is footage I pulled from a video by Footage File on YouTube, to add a visual framing piece to a musical composition I made, one that looks back on the days before — A World that Used to Be.
"There you stood watching time unfold
In the delicate strands of fates untold
To become a collage in the essence of dreams, and the
Empty photo reels of postponed themes
A haunted existence of the futures before
Though imagined, not fully born
To never advance and never be worn, and
Remain uncertain, eternal in virtual form..."
