As Saber-2 stepped out of the cave, the darkness washed over him. The shadows stretched endlessly. Not a ray of light shown through the endless night, except for a small case. It was so dark, barely anything could be seen.
“Well, what’s this?” Muttered Saber-2.
In this dark land, he did not foresee a small case in his path. The case was long and rectangular. Dotted across its sides of the case were tiny blue lights.
Maybe something’s inside that could be useful, but don’t trust the case. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a trap. thought Saber-2
Cautiously, he slowly opened the case and peeked inside. Inside the case, was a sword. It was a sleek, slender blade, with a pointed edge, tailored for stabbing. It had a steel color, tinged with a blue shade. Also, the blade glowed blue, from the metal of the blade itself and from the lights fused to its hilt. The weapon would work excellently as both a sword and as a torch in this dark land.
“Welp, looks like your luck’s working again,” stated Saber-2 to himself.
He swung the newly acquired sword a few times, falling into familiar stances. Its balance was not perfect, but it suited him fine. The blade was also light, perfect for close encounters and quick strikes.
As he swung, Saber-2 noticed something. A dire fog was rolling towards him. He could hear the eager footsteps of a pack of hungry animals inside of the fog. He knew, if he were to find himself inside of it, he would die.
Quickly, he looked for a direction to travel. His soul pulled towards a dark, broken road. It’s stones were shattered, which jutted out in dangerous., awkward positions.
Racing towards the road, Saber-2 thought why he chose this path. He knew, due to his soul being magnetized towards it, the first half of his lost powers lied beyond the road. However, he wondered why did he bother looking for his powers. He did not want them, so why did he search for them.
Suddenly, the answer came to mind. He had a duty to fulfill to the people of Offtopica, to protect them from the scourge of the Four Horsemen. These powers could be used effectively to demolish them and their sins.
As Saber-2 ran away from the mist along the road, a presence watched over Saber-2. It seethed a hatred for him, wishing him to rot in this hellish landscape.
The presence was not from the Deep, but from a different dimension. A dimension of light and tyranny it hailed from. A dimension were only its race existed, for it exterminated the others. A dimension where part of Saber-2’s lineage came from. A land called the Ascendancy.
