I have it and was reading up on it but it has me scratching my head. The blast radius bar is real small but if you pick up an orb of light the next shot has improved damage. How does that work during a boss encounter “effectively “?
If you have your super can you still pick up orbs for it?
Is it one orb for the next shot that needs to be fired only?
When doing boss DPS a lot of times the fire team is huddled together. Do you fire a shot then run to the next orb to power up the next shot then fire again?
On paper it sounds like a poor design. I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt because some gear have poor perk descriptions.
Need to get some input from those who actually use this gun quite a bit or at least have a firm understanding of it. I just don’t see angle here.
How does that work during a boss encounter “effectively “?
Define "effectively".
If you have your super can you still pick up orbs for it?
Yes.
Is it one orb for the next shot that needs to be fired only?
Each orb you pick up charges to the next shot from the weapon. Up to a total of six (full magazine) charged shots that can be stored.
When doing boss DPS a lot of times the fire team is huddled together. You only get six at a time....but those grenades do massive damage. Especially if you augment the weapon with a Boss damage mod.
On paper it sounds like a poor design. One that gives SITUATIONAL power that makes it worth using over other weapons....but not making it the best solution to EVERY problem, and thus break the game like the pinnacle hand cannons were doing in PVP. The weapon is designed to give you a MASSIVE burst of damage output, that allows you to do massive damage to bosses at short range....but without breaking the game as a whole or trivializing content.
I just don’t see angle here.
Its one of the game's premiere BURST damage weapons for PVE. Which makes it good for raid-boss fights where you need to pack a lot of damage into a short window in time. Then when that window closes....you pick up more orbs....and charge up six more shots for the next window. It gives a benefit for generating orbs beyond just charging your super. So that orbs generated after everyone's super is charged dont' simply go to waste.....or threaten to crash the game.

It's great for 6 shots...but if you need more than 6 the Spike nade Swarm dwarfs it in DPS output.

Also blinds (most) enemies and stops them from shooting you with a single shot which can come in clutch. **Yes you can still pick up orbs, after 6 orbs stop picking them up or you will waste them. **1 orb 1 shot **Nope just stack 6 and shoot. Ive done every boss in D2 and it is effective. When It's time to move around grab new orbs I still prefer it to most heavy weapons and I have them all (except Truth idc much for noob tubes)
