It has been unfortunately confirmed that trials is not coming back in shadowkeep or in the near future
Bungie keeps saying it was “flawed” or it “wasn’t what we wanted it to be” but they end there. They forget to tell us the most important piece of information
Why?
Why do they think it was flawed? What exactly was wrong with it?
I think a ton of people would agree that just adding it back in the way it was would be perfectly acceptable. (better than not having trials at all)
“It was too sweaty” or “it was too hard/unenjoyable” are not substantial reasons. In fact, many people, including myself, like to gear up and play competitive games of crucible.
If anything, the competitive playlist right now is less enjoyable, sweatier, and FAR LESS REWARDING than trials was.
You have to win many many many more games to get the rewards you want instead of just the 7 required for trials. I think people would enjoy it more if they knew they only had to sweat for 7 games to get the desired loot instead of dozens required in current comp.
So I don’t see what is wrong with just adding it back to the game. It would give people an intentional way to chase cool new gear that is unique to competitive PvP
Edit:
I keep seeing the response: “Trials had cheating and recoveries and sweats”
I don’t believe that is a thoughtful response because today’s comp playlist literally has all of that plus you have win trading and kill lobbies with the comp playlist as well
However, I think that most people would agree that at least Trials was fun. Unlike comp
Unlike comp

Yes I do not understand the classic excuse of saying it has cheating, recoveries, and “sweats”. Unfortunately cheating will always be apart of FPS games do to the use of it and ease. Recoveries will always when there is a weapon to obtian thats in a high demand where it can be very profitable. “Sweats” will always be apart of the community (AKA people that try and actually want to win, lol.) since they are a playerbase. So I suppose one could list those as reasons but they would not be as nearly as bad in Trials. Trials needed 7 wins which was about 45 mins of work, while compared to the competitive weapons it can take significantly longer (Typically 1-2days at most, longer for some.) to obtain so these problems people face would be much more prevalent in the competitive playlist than it would be in a single Trials card. All in all I have no clue why they removed Trials. Will we ever get a straight-forward answer? No. Knowing Bungie we never will, but rather obtian a cheaper replacement that may or may not succeed at all.
