In this post, I’ll lay out my plans for my ongoing fanfic, [url=https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/246624086/0/0]Remnants[/url]. I recently posted the final chapter of Remnants Book 1. [b]TIME UNTIL NEXT BOOK[/b] [spoiler]Now I will take a break from posting chapters while I prepare the next Book: Upbringing, which will be a prequel to Book 1 following the story of Avery’s rise to power and Brenon’s childhood. I will also be spending some time working on my other ongoing story, [url=https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/250301867/0/0]Lost In Thought[/url], and maybe a few other things like lore posts and short stories, and life will slow things down. So I don’t know how long it will be until I begin posting Upbringing, but it could be a long time, sadly.[/spoiler] [b]SPLITTING BOOK 1 NEW BOOK SYSTEM[/b] [spoiler]I am going to be making an important change to the current Book 1. I will be splitting it into two Books: B1: Warlords and B2: Tyrants. Chapters 1-25 will be in Book 1. Chapters 26-59 will be in Book 2, but renumbered as 1-34. Why am I doing this? My plan for Remnants was for each Book to have less than 40 chapters, preferably closer to 30. The next Book was supposed to be [b]Book 2: Destiny[/b]. But Book 1 kept getting longer. It got so long that I had to split it into 4 Books. This way I can divide the important sections of the story and not worry about filling any Book with too many chapters, which could potentially overflow their respective tables of contents.[quote] [b]Original Plan:[/b] B1: Beginnings B2: Destiny [b]New Plan:[/b] B1: Warlords B2: Tyrants B3: Upbringing B4: Legends B5: Destiny [/quote]On top of that, I realized awhile ago that I had made a mistake in the naming system for my chapters, by naming the Book 1 chapters after Remnants rather than the Book. This will be fixed, and chapters will be named after what Book they’re in. (Ex. Tyrants Ch.1: Angel) This will create a more efficient naming and hashtag system for organizing the story. I will be implementing this change soon, probably a few weeks from now. All my tables of contents, chapters, and hashtags will be updated. Each Book will have its own respective hashtag (Ex: #KS27warlords #KS27tyrants) but all the tables of contents will still be connected through the original hashtag: #KS27REMNANTS All the Books are connected and tell the extended story of Remnants, but I do intend for each Book to be able to stand independently from the others. This would make it possible for new readers to start a Book without having read previous Books, hopefully without leaving those readers confused and lost.[/spoiler] [b]BOOK 1 REVISION Edits to existing chapters[/b] [spoiler]I will be making a few small edits to some of my existing chapters to fix some problems. These changes are listed below. [b]There will not be any major changes, so you don’t need to reread the story.[/b] However, there will be some notable improvements and changes to some chapters. If you would like to reread the revised version of the story, tell me and I will PM you whenever the changes are made and the story is ready for rereading. These changes will be made when I update the Book system for Remnants, so probably just a few weeks from now. Here’s what I’m going to fix: [quote]•Small changes to dialogue and text in some chapters, to improve their quality and correct errors. •Changes to Avery/Derik interactions in the first chapters. In the first chapters I tried my best to portray Avery’s conflict over trusting Derik, but I’m not satisfied with the result and feel that it was overdramatized at some points. I will make changes to improve it. There will be several notable changes in text and dialogue. •Changes to gunmen in Chapter 1. Originally, I planned for Avery’s gunmen to be divided into two groups. I quickly scrapped that idea, but it was still evident in Chapter 1. I’ll make minor adjustments to fix this, mostly just a change in armor and some adjustments to their dialogue. •Earlier reveal of Avery’s name. I originally kept her name a mystery to tease my readers who had read my other story, Survivors. This was superfluous and I will fix it. Originally, her name was revealed in Chapter 8. It will now be revealed in Chapter 6, unless I discover a better place to reveal it. •Dialogue in Chapters 18 and 19. When Natalia was first introduced, I planned on making her character seem like a sinister and dangerous Warlord while portraying her bubbly personality. I believe I went a little overboard on both ends of the spectrum, so I’ll see if I can dial it down to make her seem less like a psycho. •Portrayal of Daedalus. My idea for Daedalus evolved as I wrote, so there are some slightly-conflicting ideas about him in the story. Basically, the changes I’ll make will be to portray him as a man who: [i]-Is known for killing people in underhanded ways. -Is known for being a dangerous and experienced gunslinger. -Has trust issues and suspects everyone of being an enemy. -Is always worrying, but knows he can’t change what’s happening around him and thinks he’ll have less problems if he just follows along. -Would rather do everything himself because he doesn’t trust people, but is also slow to action because he would rather avoid dangerous situations. -As a Warlord, spent all his time sealed in Empyrea, earning a reputation as a coward while his territory was left relatively unguarded.[/i][/quote][/spoiler] That is all.
