Does anyone remember the Fable II expression system? I'm not suggesting D2 replicate that system, but I do think there is a great opportunity for Emotes to feature as a mechanic in the gameworld. I've brainstormed a few examples of ways this might work. I imagine simple text trees interspersed with opportunities to emote. Certain emotes may unlock text progression or additional options for conversation, maybe a reward or two... or lore book entry?
1) Ikora: You can choose to discuss certain topics with her for background info, the Vex, Asher, Osirus (and her mentorship by him), The Traveler, the Speaker, Warlocks, the Hive, the Hidden, the Red War, the Death of Cayde, the Black Garden, etc... It would give us a handy reference point and provide insights into her thoughts on the major events of Destiny.
"What do you wish to know, Guardian?" (select topic) "A difficult subject Guardian. Hive science borders on magic, it's best to consult the archives." -CONSULT the ARCHIVES Emote - "What have you found Guardian? It's true, the Hive sword logic...."
2) The Drifter: "I'll tell you a secret Guardian, but let's make it interesting. Flip a Coin -" You must perform the COIN FLIP Emote and there is a chance for an extra bit of lore if the toss goes your way...
3) The Cryptarch: Topics for discussion include: Engrams, Bright Dust, Paracausality, Crypto-Archeology, The Cryptarchy, etc.. "Do you understand Guardian?" - Perform the CONFUSED EMOTE - "Why am I not surprised," go talk to Tyra Karn, maybe she has the patience to explain it."
4) Random City NPC: This particular nondescript NPC just walks around like any other background NPC in the Tower, but you can perform an interactive/multiplayer emote with him/her when the NPC is in a particular corridor away from prying eyes - SECRET HANDSHAKE - Doing this will open a short conversation where the NPC reveals he/she is one of the Hidden...
I would be a big fan of being able to activate multiplayer emotes with random NPCs even if you don't own the emote just to advertise their availability and for the sake of interacting with the world.
Just a few ideas. I think there is a lot of fun to be had here assuming Bungie wants to continue to embrace the RPG side of Destiny and continue to build the lore in-game. All optional, and yes I picked on a few exotic emotes, but you could theoretically do a lot of this stuff with blue and green emotes.
Thoughts?

Remember the three step patrols from D1? Secret patrols that could start after you complete a random patrol, but the actual instructions weren’t clear, and you had to unscramble them by doing different things, from getting precision kills, to opening chests/getting planetary materials, to actually dancing? Yeah. Those should be reintroduced
