MONSTER HUNTING in DESTINY?? An idea I got when I compared Destiny 2 to Anthem, recently...
Excited for new content in Anthem in recent update but it was pretty meaningless. Not much in terms of endgame content to use any "new" gear or weapons you acquire. So disjointed. Destiny 2 is much more polished in many ways but both games can feel disjointed: you log in, decide what to chase and the path is quite linear often with the developer dictating how to play, what activities to do, etc..
Certainly Anthem can make you appreciate all the polish in a game like Destiny 2 but BOTH games suffer from content that doesn't spark joy, at least not for very long. What if we had something that Bungie could keep going and constantly design new boss-types for, like every few months change the enemies you face? Why can't you ever be surprised?
THE MONSTER HUNTER IDEA:
Why can't you hunt creatures on every destination that leaves clues as to what they are and where they're going... use equipment to sniff out clues for each world... that you acquire from the planetary vendors... and there's 3 different tiers of enemies, randomly generated or perhaps you can acquire an item that buffs the chance of the top-tier enemy appearing. And they drop from a loot pool belonging to each destination. You make the hunts rather involved and until you become proficient the scent can be lost. These enemies can drop artifacts as trophies, too (hunting gear, like something that allows you to see clues in the dark). And have one ultra-rare enemy/boss for each Destination that only has a chance of showing up if you've successfully hunted multiple enemies on each world. MONSTER HUNTER!!
Just something dynamic. Exciting. Not so scripted by Bungie. Where surprises can happen and real disappointments when mistakes are made. Something to tell stories about! Adventures!! OMG!
Imagine the behavior of these creatures changing at nighttime? The difficulty of tracking them through Lost Sectors or the open world at night. Some might fly or be able to disguise itself like the Predator. Bungie could make a second card like for Nightfalls and you could up the difficulty so that these creatures are nearly impossible to track down and kill (but with higher chances to drop rare emblems or a specific piece of gear or weapon specific to that creature). We could have a Triumph section that acts as a log book to track your kills and progress towards the next reward (based on enemy type and planet location).
They might run into any of the Lost Sectors and make a final stand. Massive spiders! Werewolf-like creatures. Something like a dragon that flies and spits fire! Bungie could just really go to town with this since these creatures would basically be native to the planets themselves. Or, like on the Tangled Shore, one could be some massive War Beast that escaped--an experiment that got out of control! A way to toss in surprises to keep this activity fresh and dynamic. Why not??
Yeah, monster hunting. With rewards worth bragging about because in this system you earn everything you get!
