I mean it personally feels like they are a book series fandom who spend more time on Youtube, and Ishtar Collective than playing the actual game. Like they rather read Destiny lore stuff than play the game for what it is?
The atmosphere in the D2 lore community reminds of a tween series book fandom... where there is seemingly more fanfiction than legit lore discussion.
Btw it reminds of FitMc's fans being a majority who never played 2b2t before who listen to his bias stories meant to excite, while people who do play 2b2t hate FitMc for making the game virtually unplayable.
Yes, some of use play Destiny frequently. It all depends. I could have my head in the lore for a solid hour or I could be playing the game for multiple hours still appreciating the lore that I see in game. I know a lot of people, at least those that post things with #lore, enjoy the fanfic. I myself do not really enjoy fanfic because it is relevant to the actual game/story. You might just be seeing those who consistently post their fanfics and think there is an abundant amount of them when it really is simply a few people that actually right fanfic. Also try and remember for every person that posts there is probably two silent readers. And there are a lot of people that ask questions about the lore and people do enjoy simply answering the questions as best as they can. There is also a lot of lore discussions here it just that most of it is about theorizing on vague lore or just geeking out about a cool story in the lore. There is no real answer to your question obviously, but I hope I gave you some more information to chew on.
