CHAPTER 7: Dream No More
This was true emptiness. No light, nothing to reflect light. No sound, nothing to make it. Sylv was quite literally in a place that didn’t exist. He ran, he floated, he moved for an unknowable amount of time - nothing. He couldn’t use his spirit sense, nor any of his abilities. He wasn’t even certain he still existed.
Finally, Sylv recalled the poem engraved on the door.
When all has left you, Soul and Light,
Alone in starless, darkest Night,
Embrace the Nothing, and from it Reap,
Or you shall drown within the Deep.
This was definitely what it had meant. Existence itself had abandoned him. He could feel his mind slipping away, trying to become one with the nothing. And he was supposed to embrace? Did that mean he should just let go and stop existing? Or should he take control of it - Reap from it like the poem mentioned?
This all gave him a strange yet familiar feeling. It was something that had tried to take from him, long ago - so long ago, yet he had refused. He had taken it instead, made it his, and through it - all other things. He had taken the Null.
Feeling - small, yet comparatively shocking - surged within him. Sylv knew what this was. He had felt this nothing before. It was Null. All around him, all that was - it was all Null.
But there was hope, for if he could exist within this, then that meant it could be changed. Sylv reached out and connected to it, and immediately felt it try to take him, yearning to once more become nothing, but he wouldn't let it. The Null belonged to him, as it always had.
Sylv connected to the Null and tore it open, as easily as lifting his hand, drifting through into a concealed space. Inside was a simple shack of gray wood, devoid of furniture. Through the cracks in the wood, the complete darkness of the Null could be seen; this room was most definitely not a part of existence.
Across from him was a figure in a ragged cloak - face concealed by a hood and absolute darkness. Sylv’s heart, if it was still present, almost stopped beating upon seeing a lifeform in this place. Was it a god?
“Of sorts.”
Sorry this one is so late. In my defense, I literally forgot to post it. Now you may be asking, "Sylver, why do you change your formatting so much?" And to that I answer: Stop acting so suspicious before I call the feds for your filthy commie ways. Anyways, next chapter is already done, it'll be released... eventually.
