As we near the release of Shadowkeep, we're seeing another push to keep skill from being factored in matchmaking this fall. I hope people are willing to take time to watch this and understand how the game's matchmaking actually works and why sbmm is a good thing for the overall health of the game. Thank you.

anyone that doesn't want SBMM is afraid of a fair fight.

1. Y1 D1 never had sbmm, you've been spamming this lie since forever and no twitch past broadcasts, YouTube games from that era, stat games from that era or anything has ever matched up with what you claim. Sbmm was sneakily implemented during ttk - was discovered by the community, denied by bungie at first then they later admitted it. This was followed by a month of rebellion by the entire community screaming #removesbmm until bungie were forced to do so. Theres a reason bungie tried to sneak it in and couldnt be open about it; they themselves know majority hate it. 2. Higher tier player cannot play with weaker friends, you take a 2K player running with his weaker silver friends and his friends get stomped by the 6 average gold players they match. 1 diamond player cannot consistently carry under sbmm. 3. Sbmm ONLY benefits the bottom 50, you saying "that is incorrect" doesnt change the fact. Everyone above that 50% mark love non-sbmm. Those below love sbmm. The goal is to provide playlists for both those tiers and offer players options - which bungie has done. Sorry that all of pvp womt cater to the bottom half. Actually no I'm not sorry at all. 4. New players already have protection for thier first matches, anyone that's made a new account can co form this - further unless you are trying to claim that new players constantly match the top tier this argument is ridiculous 5. Skill consideration has nothing to do with balance, an overpowered gun is clearly apparent from usage, everyone and anyone can use lord of wolves now, its hardly only a top tier player = the only ones that can perform well with it. 6. You can use bows and other guns as much as you want - sounds to me like you just get killed repeatedly trying to use weaker weapons - thats on you and how you use said guns, you failing to perform well with weaker weapons does not mean "let's blame the sweaty players" it means you need to evaluate how you use said weapon and if it's the right choice for × map or gamemode or when facing opponents with × gear. 7. Funny that you praise banner when it's one of the most complained about topics here - including but not limited too how laggy it gets. 8. "The game needs to be fun and accessible to everyone" - it is. You want ranked? You got it. You want sbmm? You got it. You want non-sbmm? You got it. Stop trying to remove the options WE enjoy just so you get MORE options that cater to YOU. 9. "The stuff you're reading in forums just isnt correct" pot meet kettle 10. No. Sbmm is not a good thing at all and certainly isnt good for the majority of players - you've had this thrown in your face so many times its shocking you can still sit there and attempt to lie about it now. Sbmm is the death of any incentive to improve. You may as well stay bad and only play bad then attempt to move up and see no progress whatsoever as the competition just does as well. A game needs options - some playlists should 100% have sbmm, some 100% should NOT have sbmm. A ranked playlist is also a good thing. You have options for sbmm. You have a ranked playlist. You have 1 playlist that's not for sbmm and in fact is operating exactly like a social playlist should and has in every shooter from halo to cod to titanfall to fortnite. It's time you stopped trying to take our choice away and got a clue as to what a social playlist is for. Close, competitive games and social playlists are opposites - qp is about fast games with no filters, anyone can match everyone and that's completely fair to all, no ones forcing players to run qp, there is no bounty that requires that playlist, if you dont like it by all means enjoy the playlists that revolve around what you're after. But lol and smh if you think you're going to remove the 1 option other players enjoy. Sbmm doesnt beling in non-ranked and it sure as hell doesnt have a place controlling every facet of pvp, if 1/5 playlists not going your way means you're leaving then good bye and good riddance and we are far better off without such entitled and selfish players. No. You cant have all of pvp.

Yeah no.
As we near the release of Shadowkeep, we're seeing another push to keep skill from being factored in matchmaking this fall.
Where'd you see that?

The tryhards don't want to lose their farming grounds. SBMM needs to come back for the good of the game.

I just looked at one of my matches from last night. A quickplay shitshow. Winning team had two Diamonds, two silvers and two bronzes. Losing team 1 Gold, 2 Silvers, three bronzes. Eighty-three percent chance of winning for the winning team before the first shot was fired. Half the damn lobby had KDs of 0.71 and below. This is ridiculous that Bungie expects people to show up for this.

I'm going to just look at it like this and leave it there: Since bungie are the ones who know how the matchmaking system works...dont you think if it was truly better that they would implement It? It was there in year 1 and everything felt ok in terms of connection, but something that absolutely HAS TO be taken into consideration is the larger number of players. If for whatever reason sbmm took skill into account over connection, because of the larger number, wouldn't lag also be there more consistently? I'm going to use this as an example: I used to have pretty crap internet back during d1. Skill based matchmaking and connection based match making floated around during the years. During skill based, whether it's coincidence or not, I noticed SIGNIFICANTLY higher lag than the months before when it wasn't active. There was no logical explanation I could think of to explain this so I blamed it on the matchmaking system. My internet didn't change and it still sucked, but as taken king dropped...it got laggy. I even started having issues talking in a party when I did 6v6 game modes on Xbox. I never had these issues before. Now, obviously something else could have been factored in and I'm not saying you are wrong. But from my perspective...something was indeed wrong. Fast forward to Destiny 2 and I had my crap internet still during the beta. Same exact issues went on, but I cut it some slack because it was a beta. The game releases some time later and by then I have upgraded internet. There were some laggy games but not so many that it bothered me. That's pretty much normal Destiny though. Then they change quickplay back to cbmm later on. Most of my matches stopped being laggy. Even now when iron banner is active, I do actually notice more lag vs quickplay. Could it be that people of my skill level just have meh internet or something else is getting in the way. Regardless I still feel that cbmm has done nothing wrong for me, even if from time to time I get pub stomped. But as an above average player, it makes sense that I'm not suffering as much as others because even in stomp matches I can still salvage myself. I think they should implement what halo 5 did where matchmaking styles were choosable. Like how you can look for skill, connection, or a balance of both. Otherwise the community will just stay divided on what should be done and continue to show hostility towards one another. Even your post makes you seem a bit more hostile than usual based on the comments. I know a lot of people are acting like asses, but even then the topic is creating issues.

Bump sols. But most of the mature audience isn't here anymore. You got kids downvoting.
-
def needs to be implimented. as it is now, if you are a great player you have a far better likleyhood of playing under your skill level, which doesn't help players with less skill. The problem that arises is that the laggy cheaters tend to have higher "skill" and that means the top players play against cheaters more often. Bungie needs to deal with cheaters, then find out the situation with pvp and determine if there is enough players to even have a ladder type system to match people of like skill.
-
Very well articulated brother. Lots of luck with the studio.
-
Bump for visibility. This needs to be seen and understood because the current MM is destroying crucible
-
I rock a .9 kd so not a sweat However I have rumble, banner, weekly and comp (yes rank is a form of skill) if i want to play under sbmm Why on earth would every playlist focus on that? Absolutely not. Games provide players with options, we got some with sbmm and some without. Sbmm should not control all crucible and should NEVER return to qp.
-
Every time you post on here, it’s always you talking trash to other people. Not watching your video and take a dislike that you rightly deserve.
-
SBMM is snake oil trying to be sold as a solution to non skilled players. Just apply SBMM and watch your wins and KD improve. Except it’s a lie and universally hated. That’s why every SBMM post for the last 3 years has 0 upvotes. For every person who thinks that the 5 matches they play weekly should be in a SBMM settings they’re are way more realistic guardians that know it’s bs. Sweety lagfest or comp as my pvp options kills this game for me. Not being able to play with friends cause they will get stomped due to us being in different brackets is dumb. Bad players who barely play getting to dictate pvp is dumb. SBMM is dumb. This topic being brought up every day to get shut down is dumb. False claims of new players being served up is dumb. Using a bow and auto and complaining about the guy with the dust rock is dumb. I can do this all day.

Downvoted for being champion of no one

Your not entitled to a seperate que because you suck in a social playlist. Ridiculous concept and clearly from someone that must have never played another shooter. Halo has ranked and social. Cod has always mashed everyone together. It must be hella embarrassing knowing that children on fortnite who match streamers handle it with more maturity and have a better understanding of what non-comp gamemodes are then you. Go enjoy sbmm in those playlists desinged for it - qp is not one of those, I know this is a hard concept for some people to get seeing as everything in this game being super easy including nerfed thorn pvp quest, nerfed chaperone pvp quest, easy ace of spades pvp quest, east last word pvp quest, etc but not everything needs to be about participation trophies and making everyone happy with a 1.0kd, 50% win loss so everyone gets fooled into thinking theyre average. Sbmm is nothing but a reward for bad play and performance and shouldnt be pandered too.

After day of following, finally time to read and are all this post has to offer ;)
-
I wish they would bring back SBMM just so i can watch this game burn.
-
You seem to forget we had skill based in year 3 of destiny 1 and it was laggy as hell and everyone complained about it
-
I still think that making QP solo queue only would help immensely. Add a 2 tiered sbmm separating the bottom 20% from everyone else and we’ve got a vastly improved pvp situation. I might even be willing to go back into pvp under those circumstances. As it is now Iron Banner is the only time I go in.

Easiest way to fix pvp Step 1 - remove pvp Step 2 - fire incompotent dev team Step 3 - keep game pve and move all pinnacles to pve Step 4 - profit

Obligatory TLDR: I feel like I am “stuck” in my pvp “bracket” and Idk how to get “unstuck”. Pretty cool to finally put an face to the name LS. (I’ve been gone awhile so idk if you have already done so.) Anyway, When it domes to sbmm, I am on the side of indifference. Idk enough about it one way or another to say yes or no. What I can say is that in my time playing D1 throughout all 3 years it felt different than any of my combined experiences in D2. Even after watching your vid what you say does not seem like how it feels. I’m not saying you are wrong, I’m saying that to me the “feel” of D2 pvp is different from D1. It wasn’t until you started talking about load outs where it started to make sense. For qp I agree with you that you have to bring your absolute best or lose. I’m not someone who grinds 24/7 to get that perfect armor or weapon rolls. So it’s something that if I have time for I do try to get them, but more often I am grinding out for catalysts. My point is that in D1 I felt like I could hold my own in pvp, (except for ToO I got stomped every game and gave up). What I used was Answering Chord, the Vanguard Auto you got when you finished TTK campaign. Not the best weapon but I still held my own. My point is that in all of D1 it felt like it was fair, even with my potato load out I could still win (but not all) encounters and hold my own. I’d win some games, I lost some games but it still felt fair. Not in D2, it feels like load out vs load out and the better load out wins. It feels like there is no longer a skill gap, but a skill ceiling. It feels like I can only get so good and my gear is what is holding me down. As you said you can check the “meta” from 3rd party sources and it seems like that is the trick to advance. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not calling for buffs or nerfs, I want that to be made very clear. I’m saying that it seems like no matter how much I “tryhard” to “git gud” It seems that I have hit some sort of plateau and to break over it I need a better load out. It just seems to feel that way, maybe it’s just me idk. Maybe it’ll be different with IB this week now that I am 750, at least the power handicap is another factor I can check of the list of what to do to break through my current pvp wall. In conclusion to bring it back on topic, Idk enough about sbmm to support or resist it. What I do know is that the overall feel of D2 pvp is by far the most difficult Destiny pvp experience I have ever had and idk why.

Thank you.
Don't advocate for SBMM. Its laggy and horrible and ruined a good portion of D1 Year 2. Only bad players think SBMM is good. Fracturing the dwindling player base into tiny skill based chuck its a terrible idea. Maybe spend some time improving instead if wanting everyone else to bend to your needs. 0.9er

Hmmmm maybe I'm wrong but last time sbmm was implemented their were way under 100k players while were never below 250k to 300k plus during weekdays..... No one in my clan wants sbmm 30 of my member are between 0.8-1.2 and none want sbmm and guess what I can no longer play crucible with my clan because they dont wanna wait 10+ minutes to play 6 2kds.....

I'm gonna be "that guy" who didn't take the time to watch whatever you linked, but still make a comment. Skill based match making, in quick play and Gambit at least, shouldn't exist. And it does. Right now. Sometimes I just want to go into quick play, put on a stupid load out and have some fun. Lately I've been using a hush for the lolz. Do I care about winning? Not always. Sometimes I just want to play without giving it much thought or effort. Does that mean I want 80% or more of my matches to be against a four to six stack who play like it's comp, running NFs and chaining supers? While bungies matching system decides I'm good enough literally every single game to carry several thumbless dolts who couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat? Again...No. That's why quick play exists, and why Gambit is separate from prime with it's armor sets. It's supposed to be "just jump in and have fun, who cares because it doesn't matter". And I feel like that's not the case in quick play right now, as is. I'm fine with higher end game modes, such as comp, having mmr. That's the whole point. But in quick play? No sir.

It would be nice to have a measure of it, if only to insulate the newer players from the sweats somewhat. Lets be honest: > Its not fun for newer players to get curbstomped every single game > Newer players being discouraged hastens the shrink of the playercount in PvP and that hurts everybody Conversely... > Strict SBMM can render the game unbearably laggy for statistical outliers at both ends of the skill spectrum - thats not fair on them. > Groups of friends with a disparity in skill will find playing together unpleasant - this is also unfair, and runs contrary to Bungies goal of this being a "social game". I expect a lot of sneering about "social game" but most of its gonna be moot whataboutism. Bottom line, I agree that a measure of SBMM to keep the newbies and less skilled playing against each other more often would be beneficial, but it cant be so strict as to screw over groups of friends or the best of the best/worst of the worst. I also wonder how much realistic difference it would make, given current PvP playercounts. I'm not sure we'd even notice it tbh.
